Hi,
the IT department of the college that I attend just issued a warning that at least one computer has been attacked by CryptoWall (which apparently encrypts all files on your C drive and you have to pay to get them back). Does anyone know if WebRoot protects against this threat?
Thanks!

Hello Woodel66, welcome to the Webroot Community!
At this point there are hundreds, if not thousads, of variants of this malware. WSA does indeed protect against known versions of the malware.

Phew!
Awesome, thanks! Backing everything up into the cloud nonetheless; just in case....

This is key - we protect against all the known CryptoWall variants, but there are new ones that come out frequently that attempt to bypass the defenses of all AV software.@ wrote:

Note what Nic said... "new ones that come out frequently that attempt to bypass the defenses of all AV software."@ wrote:

Every AV is in a constant state of keeping up with new variants, so your backing up your data is really particularly important, just in case.
