so many ways for a simple question to be answered

When you say "get  windows 10 to detect...what is in the usb port" what precisely do you mean? Perhaps an example of what you are doing, what is on the device attached to the USB port, what you are expecting to happen, etc., would help to clarify?

I have a verbatum flash drive that worked on all my previous computers but doesn't work at all in my hp with windows 10 like sticking a piece of plastic in nada!

Ah ha, now I understand the area your issue is in...my apologies...being a bit obtuse this Saturday morning :$
 
Can you see the USB when you go into File Explorer? Is it list under 'Devices and drives' when you click on 'My PC'?
 
If it is then if you click on the icon do you get the following message:
 
"USB Device not recognized: One of the devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." 
 
Or does absolutely nothing show up anywhere at all to indicate that it is plugged in?
