New, irritating Win 10 notification

Remember the "Your antivirus is turned off" notification? Well, this one is innocuous but irritating: "Fix apps that are blurry?" I dismiss this notification, and it regularly comes back. Does anybody know how to stop it from apprearing? I am not touching my display settings (custom scale) as it took me a while to get my screen resolution set to where I could actually read stuff and it was in the right aspect ratio. I'm using Win 10 Home Version 1803.

Hi rbarrow,

I was getting the same notification as you last night and it was driving me bonkers. I am running Windows Pro 1803 and I found in "Settings" that I think this box pops up from "Focus Assist." I turned off my notification for all apps off and I have not seen this Blurry Display Message since.

@ are you having any issues about this?

Hi, Sherry,
Thanks for the reply. In spite of my settings already being "Off," I'm still getting the notifications.

Various results in a Google search so far were not helpful, especially with those two things already toggled off. Wonder if it has anything to do with Win 10 Home, Win 10 Pro diff's.

Hi Rick,

I'm running the same version of Windows Pro at work and haven't seen these notifications. (I have Windows 10 Home at home and can check for you when I get home).

But I do have 'Focus Assist' turned off in settings. If you open the Notification Panel (Click on square in lower-right of screen), and then click 'Expand' you will see the setting for 'Focus Assist'. Do you have that turned off?

Just a thought. Like I said, I will check one of my PCs that is running Win10 Home when I get home and see what I find. ;)

Hi, BD,
Thanks for the suggestion. No "Expand" in my notifications, but I again checked settings, and the blurry thing and focus is off. I am guessing this has something to do with my custom settings I mentioned in my original post. However, since messing with focus, I don't think I've seen the notification. Wait and see.

No worries, that just takes you to the same 'Focus Assist' setting in 'Settings' that you have already turned off. (Sorry didn't see that picture).

Hope you get it figured out. Please let us know what you discover. It will help anyone else who happens to find themselves in the same situation. 😉

Hi rbarrow

From what I have read elsewhere apparently, starting with Windows 10 build 17063, Microsoft introduced functionality to make it 'easier' for the user to fix apps that become blurry if you carry out changes to your config such as dock/undock, RDP, or change display settings.

This is because some desktop apps can become blurry when these changes are made. When this occurs one had to sign out and sign in to Windows to have these apps render correctly. Since the change one can now, as an alternative, turn on the Fix scaling for apps feature that will enable these apps to be fixed simply by re-launching them.

I suspect that it is somethiing to do with the scaling settings wherein the issue lies.

I have found a good source of possible fixes but as it is not what one would call a mainstream site I am not really allowed post the link in open forum, so yo are welcome to PM me for it, if you are interested.

Regards, Baldrick

Feel kinda stupid, but I just re-booted and received the notification. But this time looked at the rest of this drop-down list:

...and chose "No, and don't show again." I'm gonna reboot and see what happens.

Thanks, Sherry.
Actually, I'm glad that I happened upon this thread. Until today, I hadn't even heard of or noticed the "Focus Assist" feature. I've learned some new things today, which is always cool. 😃

I seen it once just after updating to 1803 and turned it off right away! I also seen once on a clean reinstall of 1803 on my newest laptop but never seen it again (Pop-Up) but it's in the settings and a new feature within 1803.

Well that's great to hear. This issue was very annoying when it was occurring on my PC. So I'm happy I don't get that goofy popup anymore. That'll be the day my Alienware 17 R 4 gets blurry! LOL 😉

Thanks, everyone for bearing with me on this. I guess the obvious solution was not obviously intuitive to me.

Best wishes until the next Win 10 feature that I don't understand...

Hi rbarrow

Apologies for not being able to respond sooner but was away from my machine all day yesterday and without Internet access. I see that TripleHelix has posted the link to the very same artcile that I was alluding to...so you should be good to good.

Again, my apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

Regards, Baldrick

The notification is gone, gone, gone. Did anybody else find it surprising to see "Yes, open Settings," not expecting to see a choice under that for turning off the notification? Also, "blurry" and "focus" seemed related, but "focus" was actually about grabbing your attention. Got my attention.

Well, with the way my eyes are getting these days, I don't think I would've even suspected that it was the PC but rather just my eyes. :D

I thinks it's odd that, even though I've updated all 10 of my laptops/PCs to the latest version of Windows (1803), I have never seen any notifications about Focus Assist or fixing blurry apps, even on my insider builds. :S So thanks, Rick. If you hadn't posted about it I'd still be oblivious. Good info from Daniel/Baldrick, as well, with the link/info from Microsoft support. ;)

I've done a lot of exploring in the latest version of Windows, but apparently not enough. Although Microsoft can be pretty sneaky when it comes to adding/removing certain features or reverting your privacy and other settings to an undesireable state.  :@

Cheers,

Baldrick

What is interesting re. this is that I have just noticed that further to executing a function in Thunderbird whent he screen refreshed it was 'blurry' or rather the text was. No popup on the horizon...but once I restarted Thunderbird it reappeared behaving 'normally'...????

So seems sporadic and I am wondering if this has something to do with the recent changes in the Microsoft rendering engine (I forget what is the correct or Microsoft term)?

Baldrick,

Maybe somebody braver than me might check, but I think the pop-ups might appear if one messes with "Scale," in Settings that I had set a cupla years back with a new monitor and many, many Win 10 updates ago.
