Our Webroot for Business line of products just got a pricing makeover and we're excited about it because it just...makes sense!

Here's an excerpt from the release:

Broomfield, Colo. – March 12, 2013 – Webroot, a leader in cloud-based security intelligence solutions, today launched Webroot SecureAnywhere Business User Protection Pricing. Unlike traditional fixed per device plans, the new flexible licensing program enables enterprise and service provider customers to leverage a user-based licensing model. Companies can now quickly and easily deploy Webroot SecureAnywhere endpoint and mobile protection services with a simple, straightforward licensing model that protects users across endpoints, mobile devices, physical servers, and virtual servers—all in a single, user-based license to keep companies secure, anywhere.

Some of the benefits:

  • Simplicity: Stop counting devices and secure users on any device.
  • Flexibility:  Allow IT infrastructure and endpoints to expand and contract as the business needs change.
  • Cost Savings: The cost doesn't change if your users add endpoints.
  • Assurance: Peace of mind that users are always protected.

So why is this so great?

How many endpoints do you think each of your users has?  Let's think about it for just a minute.  There's the computer each of them has, and we can start counting there.  That's one.  There's probably a smartphone accessing company information from an unsecured network at a coffee shop - that's two.  Personal tablet?  That's three.  Virtual machines?  Servers?  How many endpoints is that now?  Have we lost count yet?  Would you rather have a number-of-endpoints-based license for security software that ultimately makes you renegotiate your contract way too frequently, or would you like a license for security software that protects you instead based on how many users you have?  Are you tired of guessing how many endpoints you need to sign up for in your contract?  We are too.  Let's stop guessing.

The bottom line is that this model results in an average of about a 65% cost reduction vs. traditional pricing.  That's assuming each of them have four endpoints, but even for users with very few devices or even just one, there is still a cost savings.  Under the old model, if you had the lowest tier we offered (5 to 24 users), the price per endpoint was $34.92 for PC and $34.92 per endpoint for Mobile.  We also had a deal for $45.00 per month for both.  Let's consider that - if your single user had a PC and a smartphone - you were paying between $45.00 and $69.84 per year to protect him.  Conversely, on this new model, you're paying $39.99 per user per year, and we don't even care if your user has virtual machines, servers, and tablets to add the protection to as well.

In the short term, you're saving money right now, and in the long term, you're saving money as your business grows.  If your users start off with one device and end up with two, three, or four your cost per user does not change.
