To our Valuable Customers, On the afternoon of February 24, Webroot users reported login issues and slow device performance. Our investigation revealed a surge in traffic to one of our cloud-based hash lookup services. To address this, we quickly scaled up backend capacity, restoring service within two hours.Similar to an incident in December, a failure in agent logic led to excessive API calls, straining the cloud’s responsiveness and delaying certain processes. To prevent future occurrences, we are implementing improvements, including:Enhancing agent logic to reduce backend load during call failures. Regularly reviewing and adjusting cloud capacity limits. Re-architecting the agent’s cloud application for better scalability. Optimizing AWS policies to strengthen platform performance. Enhancing service monitoring for faster issue resolution. Decoupling service dependencies to improve reliability. We appreciate your patience and remain committed to delivering reliable endpoint protect

Starting at approximately 14:00 UTC on December 2, 2024, our team began receiving reports of severe performance degradation on customer devices. Upon investigation, we identified that the root cause stemmed from an inability for the Webroot agent to communicate with an essential backend service. This disconnect led to a substantial increase in traffic volume as agents repeatedly attempted to reach our cloud backend. To mitigate the situation, we rapidly scaled our backend server capacity, which restored timely feedback loops between the agent and our systems. By doing so, we stabilized overall performance and brought the service back to normal operations. In our post-incident analysis, we discovered that the excessive load correlated with the days immediately following holiday weekends. While minor spikes are not uncommon, the extended post-Thanksgiving weekend created a particularly large surge that exacerbated the performance degradation this time around.Moving forward, our agent and c

For now all URLs work until we get that sorted, but the plan is to have all URLs working and redirecting. Just a heads up!

Update 2/29/24: Here is a high-level summary of what happened. Our shared authentication service experienced severe performance degradation. This service is essential for authenticating interactions between many of our APIs as well as being used by the Management Console and Endpoint Protection agent. The issue originated internally, not from any external malicious activity like a denial-of-service (DoS) attack. While the exact cause is still under investigation, initial findings suggest a potential bug in one of our applications. This bug led to a surge in traffic, resembling a DoS-like impact on our authentication service. Our operations & development teams are actively working to address the root cause to prevent future disruptions. Monday Morning 2/26/24 we received reports from our users regarding challenges encountered while using Webroot. We understand the inconvenience and disruption caused and appreciate your patience. Below, you'll find a comprehensive FAQ to

As many of you know, because of Webroot's unique way of identifying threats, it has never officially been included in public tests. Previous test methodologies simply haven't been devised to test Webroot according to the way it works to detect and block threats. While still a work in progress, we’re happy to announce our first public testing in SE Labs Small Business Endpoint Protection Oct-Dec 2020. The result was a AAA rating for Webroot. It's important to note that these results are only achieved when the new Script protection component of the Webroot Evasion Shield is activated. If you have yet to enable this feature, you can find directions for how to do so here.
