black screen
when I click my icon to sign into windows 8 and enter my password the screen goes black with my curser still visable

Welcome to the Webroot Community,
This sounds like a hardware driver, such as your video driver. Or iit's from a Windows update or can be fixed by a Windows update. It can be numerous reasons why this could be happening. Are you able to use System Restore and go back to another time? Can you get into Safe Mode with Networking and do a Webroot scan?
If you google this issue you will find alot of information concerning this black screen with only the cursor in Windfows 8.
Did this happen after installing Webroot? I sincerely don't believe it's a Webroot issue. If you think it is then please get back to us and we can give you some more options.
