Apple has confirmed an important storage compatibility change that will affect some Mac users when macOS 28 arrives next year. If you still use an encrypted Mac OS Extended, also known as HFS+, volume on an external drive or another storage device, you will need to decrypt or reformat it before upgrading. by: Paul HorowitzIn case you were not aware, MacOS 27 Golden Gate will be the last version of MacOS to offer Rosetta support. Rosetta is a translation tool from Apple that allows Mac computers with Apple Silicon chips to run older Intel applications. It runs seamlessly in the background anytime an Intel app is launched, and works pretty much flawlessly, offering modern MacOS support for many older Intel-based apps. If you’re using an Apple Silicon Mac, you might have already installed Rosetta at some point in time to use an Intel-based app.Essentially this means that if you depend on Rosetta to run some critical apps, you’ll either want to stay put with MacOS 27 Golden Gate moving forward, or find alternative apps, or get updates to those apps for Apple Silicon whenever possible. Unfortunately not all Intel-based apps have Apple Silicon versions or support, and so this means some Mac users will be left in a challenging situation in time. >> Full Article <<

by: Paul HorowitzThe Release Candidate builds of MacOS Tahoe 26.6, iOS 26.6, and iPadOS 26.6, are now available for those engaged in beta testing for current generation versions of Apple system software. There are also RC builds for MacOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and MacOS Sonoma 14.8.8, though it’s hard to imagine many people aside from some devs are beta testing those versions at the moment. The RC builds of iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 mention they prepare for iOS 27 by optimizing Spotlight, something that many iOS 27 beta testers have noticed can take several days to complete with a message in Settings app stating the device is “Optimizing Search and Siri”. Otherwise, it’s assumed that the OS 26.6 updates will focus mostly on bug fixes and security patches.With the RC builds being issued, it’s reasonable to assume the final versions of iOS 26.6, MacOS Tahoe 26.6, and iPadOS 26.6, should debut sometime in the near future, perhaps by the end of this week or next. >> Full Article <<

Apple customers may face another round of price increases after TSMC reportedly decided to raise chipmaking prices from 2027.
