THE CODE BREAKING INSTITUTION Bletchley Park has received a donation of £1m from technology personage Matt Crotty.
The money goes to the National Museum of Computing (TNMOC) at Bletchley Park, a place where old computers are curated and looked after.
The donation must be matched and will drip into TNMOC as the organisation raises matching funds.
"To help the development of a museum such as this is an exceptional opportunity that comes once in a lifetime. I have watched this organisation grow and make astonishing achievements with very limited funding," said TNMOC trustee Crotty.
"My decision to donate has also been motivated by the increasing public awareness of the significance of digital heritage and the role and understanding it can play in inspiring current and future generations to become engineers and computer scientists."
