Well it had to happen and this will not beb the first time, I hope no pets suffered but this type of thing is bound to happen.

The IoT may be wonderful enabling people to control their homes with a click BUT it is only as good as the systems supporting it, but it may well be an accident waiting to happen in some cases.

Fears over the rise of smart technology have intensified as it was revealed pets were left hungry for 10 hours after a host of feeding devices controlled with smartphones broke down. 

 

Pet owners using Petnet's technology to feed their animals when they were out of the house found themselves stuck when a malfunction in the computer program that connected the "smart" feeders to owners' phones caused them to stop working. 

Petnet, the company that makes the machine, urged its customers to feed their pets "manually" while the problem persisted.

I think I'll stick with one on a timer, do it myself, or ask a friend. Imagine if they were on vacation and it was more like 1-2 weeks of an outage.

We have been saying this for a while now, eh, Jasper...and no doubt sounding like to two old guys in the balcony (from The Muppet Show)...but it is true that the IoT is 'progressing' =(if that is the word) far too fast for its own good and when it does this is the sort of thing...or worse...that ends up happening.
