Hiya Peeps!

Just a short question  -  can anyone tell me a very simple way of dealing with these annoying little black (taskeng) boxes that keep flashing on screen - sometimes on start up, sometimes not.

I've searched for a remedy on other sites and chat rooms but they all advise going into C drive, users, then to something else in order to delete whats causing it but get so far then click on a file that is empty and now I'm totally stumped!  Help!  :/

Hi Linda

Hope that you are well?

The popups can be caused for a number of reasons and it can be a pain to figure out what is causing it...it could be some background job running or down to something like a missing file being notified off, etc.

In case you have not seen this please take a look at this thread from the MS Support Forum...it may be of assistance.

Hi LoopyLinda,

Good info from Baldrick, as usual.

If I might add... these flashing screens are most likely command windows that can be fired off by the scheduler, startup items, or any of many programs that spawn them.  You can research this yourself by looking in various places like startup, msconfig, or you can do it the easy way with Microsoft/SysInternals Autoruns tool.  You can find tutorials on the user of this tool or just rely on the pdfs and internal help that is available.  It offers temporary disabling or deletion, of the items.

Best Regards,

Dave
