Well, if we consider what reported in the following article, starting from October 2016 anyone applying Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 updates will be at Redmond's mercy.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3108405/microsoft-windows/microsoft-changes-win781-updates-pushes-even-harder-for-windows-10.html
Finally an analytical and well written article.
So, it seems like Microsoft hasn't forgotten us (users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1). Our loving mother Microsoft loves all her children the same way, and she doesn''t want anyone in the world to miss the opportunity to taste her latest "cookies".
Maybe someone will find this attention touching, but I find it simply scary :-)
So.. one more reason to start backing up our Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines regularly (at least once per month). Should Microsoft apply to Win 7/Win 8.1 the same nagging policy as in Win10, the only solution will be to roll back to the "safe" state and turn Windows updates definitely off. That's the only way to prevent Microsoft from transforming our own PCs into "Zombie" machines.
Best regards

Microsoft will figure out a way to undo the unpatched so everybody has no choice anymore. You'll take what Microsoft gives you, period. :@@ wrote:

All the more reason to use one of the Linux distros, like Ubuntu.@ wrote:

Makes you wonder how cozy Microsoft is with our various "National Security" agencies. You know, like the NSA, who can't even avoid being hacked themselves.
What a world, what a world...
Yeah, makes me glad I'm old and have seen the good old days. 😃@ wrote:

EFF rips Microsoft for "blatant disregard of user choice and privacy" in Windows 10
In a signed editorial, a staffer from the Electronic Frontier Foundation has blasted Microsoft for its aggressive Windows 10 upgrade program (now ended), and also criticized its privacy defaults.http://www.zdnet.com/article/eff-rips-microsoft-for-blatant-disregard-of-user-choice-and-privacy-in-windows-10/?ftag=TREc64629f&bhid=23250526
