Microsoft has released the first software update for the Windows 10 Technical Preview for Enterprise since this early version of their next operating system was first offered to the public on October 1.

We don't know exactly what's included in this first update in terms of new features and improvements, but we will update this post as soon as we get more information. At the moment, all we know is that this will bring the build number up to version 9860. This will likely be just the first of many updates to the Windows 10 Technical Preview in the months to come.

Update While we wait for our copy of Windows 10 to update, Microsoft has gone ahead and posted what's new in the new 9860 build on their Windows blog. The big new addition is the Action Center, the official name for the long rumored notification center addition. Here's the gist:

"So with this build, we're bringing "Action Center" from Windows Phone over to the PC as the place where you can see and follow up on all actionable items. This build is focused ONLY on enabling basic notifications – quick actions and cleaner UI will come later. You'll see notifications from the system and apps – from new emails and invites to IMs, Facebook posts and more – all in one place, so you don't miss a thing. Click on the new Action Center icon in the notification area of your taskbar to check it out."

Now that we have downloaded and installed the new build of the Windows 10 Technical Preview, we have found that there are even more features added that Microsoft hasn't officially revealed. In addition to the new Action Center, Microsoft has put in two Windows Phone features: Data Sense and Battery Saver.

Since the Windows 10 preview is supposed to be for desktop and enterprise testing, the Data Sense feature isn't fully enabled yet, but should be more useful when the OS is optimized for tablets. However, much like Data Sense for Windows Phone, the Windows 10 version is designed to give users a better way to manage their Wi-Fi and cellular wireless data, along with a way to restrict background data.
