Windows update program uses CPU without updating?

I'm curious about this. I know it will rev when updating, but I haven't found an update this time when it revved.

Which process are you referring to? Maybe it was checking for updates and didn't find any?

 I can't recall the name, but it was odd. Usually it doesn't do anything.

trustedinstaller.exe. THat's what it was.

That's used to install the updates. So if you're looking for a newly-downloaded update, no you probably won't find one. Rather, it will have installed one that was already downloaded.
