Hello DoctorD,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

After doing abit of research I came acrss this Microsft  article http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-error-80244016-8024402f-c80003fa#1TC=windows-7 EDIT and Here

I found another article http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/windows-81-windows-update-fails-to-scan-and-error/f7ea9556-4a8c-47d2-ac8b-ed6f0e4445b5

I didn't find thius error for Windows 8.1. Maybe @ has more inforrmation concerning this?

Best Regards,
If I may interject here, Sherry?

I think that DoctorD is referring to the fact that the error message detailed description suggests that "it might mean that a program running on your computer is preventing Windows Update Services from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, or proxy servers.". i.e., that WSA may be interfering with the correct operation of the devices connectivity with the web.

I suspect that this may be a case of trying the ol' uninstall/reboot/clean re-install 3 step...on which guidance may be required, to see if it is in fact a faulty install of WSA causing the issue? So perhaps youwould do the honours here? ;)

Hello DoctorD!

As Baldrick has suggested that you do a Clean reinstall of Webroot to resolve your issue here. I aplogize for not thinking of this myself. So..

Can you please do a clean reinstall of WSA and Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
Please let us know if that resolves your issue?

Thanks,
