If I change the name of the computer will it change the name on the management console?

It should - we use the unique ID to identify the computer, not the name, so it will still recognize it as the same machine.
It will, I've had to change some of my computers names and it will update. Just remember it will not update immiedately, just when the next time is is polled (so if you haev a longer polling interval it won't immediately show).
