Please read this KB article. It could give you a clue to resolve your issue.
Here's the kicker. I don't have a SD card installed on My S3... does this mean My on board storage is corrupted?
Not necessarily but there might be a file that is corrupted and thus makes the stuck scan. Can you connect your S3 to a PC as a USB disk and run the checkdisk as described in the KB article?
