How do I stop background script in Windows 8/mozilla? I've done the "aboutconfig" method with no success.

Hello shamora, and Welcome to the Webroot Community.
Try doing a 'clean boot', and see if that helps: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
edit: I see you must have been referring to the browser alone, and Baldrick has added.

Hi shamora
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Have you by any chance just install WSA or any addons just prior to the issue starting? Reason I ask is that some problems with Firefox are caused by extensions, themes or hardware acceleration. Have you seen this link from Mozilla? If not then please take a look and see if the information contained therein is of help wit hthe issue.
Please do let us know how you get on.
Regards, Baldrick

Thanks for your input.
I was not aware of the link, so I went to that page and followed the instructions. The script was still there in safe mode, so I did the "profile folder" instructions (as best I could, since I'm pretty slow around the technical aspects of computing) with the same results. As I type this today, script is still running in the background and my computer has been on for more than an hour. Fortunately, at this time it is not slowing down getting to websites, but I do believe that it locks up Mozilla from time to time and I have to reboot. Flash player was a suspect, but when I've removed it the background script still occurs.
It's certainly frustrating, but I'm afraid I'll have to live with it.
Thanks again for your time.

Hi Shamora
Are you able to provide any more information as to exactly what the script is, what it is called, etc., as that might help us trace it and thence find a way of dealing with it for you?

Hi, here's an additional Mozilla link which may help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script
It may help to disable add-ons (perhaps one at a time), and see if one of them may be causing it, if you haven't done already..
And as Baldrick said, any more info would help to identify the issue.
Thanks

Thanks, but I've already done that with no change to the script.
The only time (and it happens infrquently) I have a clue is when I get a message that there is "unresponsive script", and, do you want to allow it to continue or to "stop script". I have no add-ons. My plug-ins are Adobe Acrobat 11.08.4, Shockwave Flash 14.0.0.179, JAVA (TM)Platform SE 7 U67 10.67.2.1,Intel Identity Protection 2.1.42.0, globalUpdate Update 1.3.25.0. My desktop computer is "clicking" in the background as I write this and has been all day. It is not affecting my browser speed as of now.
You may like to try a reset (or FF reinstall) if you haven't already, to see if it persists. Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems | Firefox Help If it is solely browser-related.
Edit: Hopefully someone else may 'chime in' with an idea.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I did this a while ago. It didn't solve the problem, but gave me a headache restoring things I'd lost!
Dare I say it (and I am just trying to be helpful) but perhaps you should consider changing to another browser that dose not exhibt this 'featurette'?
Tried IE10 and Chrome; neither corrected the background script.
Thanks to all for weighing in on my problem. I'm going to live with it, so give help to someone else that nedds it for more serious problems.

Hi shamora
No problem...I will keep lookiing into this one and see if we cannot come up with something permanent for you...after all it must have happened to others and been solved...it is just a case of looking.
