My Webroot subscription expired at the end of October, and here it is, a month later, and I just got around to renewing it (I know, I know, I should have done it sooner). Now I've renewed it, but it's not showing that I renewed it. Thinking I'd missed something, I went back to the subscription renewal page and accidentally renewed it a second time. After that, I thought maybe I had to restart my computer to see any changes (you know, like when you install updates, you have to restart your computer after), but that didn't change anything. Can someone please tell me when it will show that I have updated? Thanks.
Hello there, welcome to the Community!

Is your  renewal directly through Webroot or is it through Best Buy / Geek Squad?
I am going to go on ASSUMPTION here that your copy is a Best Buy Subscription Software copy.  Here are a few things you need to know.

1)  You will NOT be billed twice. The online renew form does NOT bill in real time, and so your card will not have been charged yet.  The form really only updates payment information for the billing system to use later.  More about that below.

2) The 'reciept' that shows after updating your payment information is NOT a reciept.  This is a VERY common confustion and complaint and I really with they would change it to better reflect that it is, actually, an account statement.  in the fine print you will see what estimated date your card WILL be charged on when the billing system runs.  Again, more about the billing system below.

3) That billing sytem.  Ok, here we go with the real deal on it.  For Subscription Services (Both the Best Buy AV subscriptions and Geek Squad Tech Support) Best Buy does not bill in real time.  The billing system runs ONCE a day, billing every account due or overdue for payment all at once.  The batching and pre-auth cycle for the billing date of tomorrow will actually start within just a few hours in mid afternoon.  At some point, usually shortly after midnight, the charges will be finalized.  After all card charges have been finalized, then comes the big task of recording the batch to the individucal accounts, as well as transmitting the new expriation dates/authorizations to the AV vendors like Webroot.  This is typically complete by 7 AM the following morning.  (Tomorrow in this case for you)

So, the bottom line if your renewal is done by Best Buy:

  • You will not be billed twice

  • Your software will still show expired but you are actually still protected as the software technically still protects for 30 days after the expiration date

  • Your renewal should go through tonight and thus your software reflect the renewal by 7 AM tomorrow morning.

I hope this helps, but if you have any questions OR if your renwal is NOT through Best Buy, please let us know!
Yes, my subscription is through Best Buy/Geek Squad.

So the renewal will be reflected by tomorrow morning? I only ask again to double check because after I updated it a couple hours ago, I ran a scan and tried to have it fix the threats that were detected, and it said that it couldn't fix them because my subscription was expired. I just want to be sure that I will be able to have those threats taken care of tomorrow. Thank you again.
It found threats but could not remove them?  That, from what I know, is NOT supposed to happen.  It should remove the threats.

If your actual expriation date is 29 days or less ago, it should have removed the threats.  If the expriation date is 30 days or more ago, then it should not remove the threats as there is only a 30 day operational grace period on renewal.

Yes, your renewal will be reflected by tomorrow morning at 7 AM, usually quite a bit sooner.

I know the Best Buy system VERY well as until just a few months ago I had spent 3 years as the "Subject Expert" in the department that does escalations for the Subscription Software, so if you have any questions let me know.   🙂
The expiration date was October 28, so it has only been 23 days since the actual date.

I ran the scan again so I could tell you exactly what it said:

"Threats Identified. SecureAnywhere has identified threats on your system. It will be able to remove these threats without harming your files."

Then there are 4 threats listed. I selected them all and hit 'continue'. Something comes up then that says "A cleanup license key is required to remove threats." I then select 'okay' and it takes me back to the Geek Squad subscription renewal page. This is what made me think that it takes some time for it to register that I already have renewed it. Perhaps, then, you can tell me why it will not remove the threats?

Thank you.
That I am not sure, but I AM sure it is supposed to remove threats for 30 days following the renewal due date.

Are you sure your renewal due date was October 23 and not September 23, with October 23 being the end of the 30 day period?  That is a common mistake, and even happens here and there among Geek Squad agents if they read the list of dates wrong.  (There are a lot of dates listed on an account LOL)

@ are you able to take a look and see what the dates such the 'renew', the 'activation' and "soft cancel" date is on the Account at your end?
Not finding a profile at the email address you used for the community - if you can PM me your keycode or the email you used, then I can take a look.
That might be it, I'm not sure. Though the date is October 28, not 23.

When I go on the Geek Squad page where it gives you the option to renew, in the top right hand corner it has a little picture of a clock and it says "0 days remaining, expires October 28, 2014."

If that is the problem, what do I do to fix it? Or get a new subscription?
Dont buy a new one.. that just complicates things, and your card is already being queue'd up for tonight's renewal run anyway.  I just get worried when things might not be working as they are supposed to be.

You will be fully operational in the morning, but i am just worried why you are not operational now.  It COULD be that the Expires Oct 28th date you see if the END of the 30 day grace period (The renewal actually due back in September).

Nic can check on that if you PM him your key code, but that is up to you.  It really is almost an academic question as far as your own subscription is concerned, though of importance to look into for others if broken 🙂
Ok here's what I see in our system:

Start Date:08/29/2013

End Date:08/28/2014

Cancel Date:09/28/2014
That looks like the 30 protection grace period ended on 9/298, and so the payment grace period should have ended on 10/28/2014.  I am not sure why the billing system accepted a payment update for an account that probably cannot be renewed.

First thing in the morning, check both the status of the account, AND your credit card.  If your card has NOT been billed, you will need to buy a new copy/
Alright, I'll check it tomorrow. Thank you.
Sorry about the confusion with the dates.. the fact it allowed you to provide payment info threw me, it should NOT have done that.  I will be quite surprised if it does renew, but please do let me know tomorrow.  If it indeed is inable to be renewed, Nic or I might send a note regarding the problem with the billing system accepting the payment information.

Thanks!
@   Good morning, I am just checking in to see if your card was charged and the software renewed?

Again, from the dates posted yesterday, it appears to me that the October date was the END of the 60 day renew grace period, after which the account cannot be renewed.

If this was indeed the case, and your account did not renew, please let me know so that i can submit a bug report to Best Buy regarding the billing system: it should not have allowed you to update your payment information on an account that cannot be renewed :)

Thanks!
