I found out that the carrier who fuels my mobile HotSpot is doing maintenance on their tower so that their 4G service is not up and will not be available for 48 hours which cuts me off from most everything and when I DO get a moment of coverage I have to pounce, like now.

So, my question is, with my Webroot Secure Anywhere on my laptop, is it safe to use the free wi-fi connection from the hotel I'm staying in to get on line and do the necessary items I need to do, including have my daily scan by Webroot? Because right now I have tried to manually run a scan on my laptop twice and every time it gets to 81% where it connects to Webroot to scan using the database, it's freezing up and accumulating time but not actually doing anything.

So, again, Remedial Teffie is asking if any of you all know if it's safe to use the offered free wi-fi or should I just bide my time until the tower maintenance for TMobile is complete and my hotspot *will* be up and running again?

Thanks for your help!!!!
In places like Hotels, Airports and even Cafes it's best not to do anything important like banking and such. You can if you use a good VPN service and if you would like my recommendations just send me a PM!

?Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you but my connectivity issues continue which make me unable to respond as I would like!

I think that I will simply wait until they get this work finished by the end of tonight ( they said 48 hours for maintenance locally ) and then keep my fingers crossed that i will have full connectivity tomorrow.

My real concern is that my drive home is through some rural wildnerness areas and without a strong signal i would be in a world of hurt should something happen to me on the road and i would be unable to get someone to help me, especially late at night as I have a 1100 mile drive ahead of me...

But thank you for the information!  I think I'll play it safe and just do basic email checks, a few posts and run my scans like i should until i'm sure everything is secure! :D

Yes sure thing! I just wanted to show you that you are not fully protected from Packet Sniffers from these places unless you use a Good VPN service.

Cheers,

Daniel 😉

Hi Teffie!

Daniel is right. I had my email hacked after using unsecured hotel wi-fi. Even if it is secured I'd still be careful. I also recommend two-step authentication if your email service provides that. Have a safe trip. :)

? I AM safe when I use my own secure personal hot spot, though, right?  I have been using it when I can get on line and I was under the impression that because it is my personal secure mobile hot spot device and i have the Webroot in place that I would be protected.

haven't done any sensitive stuff on line, just responded to emails and run security scans, but I want to make sure if there is something else i should be doing/checking that I do it.

Thanks!
Hi Teffie.

You're welcome.

And yes, if you're using your mobile hotspot then you should be fine. It's just the hotel wi-fi that I'd be cautious with.

Take care. Enjoy your trip. ;)
