I got jacked by iYogi scam ,they led me to believe they were Webroot partner ,it was intrusive & I feel really stupid for not realizing it ,they asked permission to enter my computer ..then did all this weird stuff ,and all I wanted to know was what I needed to do to add another computer to my Webroot subscriotion . Finally the guy asked me for $498 ,or .I was warned my laptop was certainly going to crash...a outright threat almost . I was panicking ,.and now some random dude from India friended me on FB ,think it was the jackass I was speaking with at iYogi....I DID not confirm him of course on FB !!! My question ,is there anyhting I need to do now about this ~RR
Hi RhondaR

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Some of these scammers are real artists (of the worst sort) and it can be very easy to be deceived...but well done for being wary of the befriending on FB...may be innocent...but I don't believe in those sorts of coincidences, personally.

What is the current position with the laptop?  Is it functioning OK/normally?  Have you detected anything abnormal since the 'intervention'?  Let's start at that point.

Sorry that this happened to you.  We are definitely not affiliated or partnered with iYogi, and our tech support is always free for our customers.

As long as you haven't given them any money or financial information then I think you're ok on that front.  After letting them remote in to your computer you should probably run a scan and/or contact our support here:

https://www.webrootanywhere.com/servicewelcome.asp

to make sure that nothing malicious was left behind.

Hello and Welcome to the Webroot Community!

One time I helped someone that got scammed and all they did was turn off some services to make look like it's not working right so hopefully they didn't turn off System Restore and if you can try a System Restore to a day and time before iYogi got to it.

Here for Windows Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-vista/turn-back-time-on-your-pc-undo-system-changes-with-system-restore

Here for Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Here for Windows 8 or 8.1: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

If they turned off System Restore please do as Nic said and contact Webroot Support with his link and they do do it for free! And if you did pay them make sure you contact your Credit Card company ASAP and file a Fraud complaint against iYogi.

http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/IYOGI-SCAM/internet/IYOGI-SCAM-IYOGI-SCAM-FRAUD-Internet-Internet-823185

The internet is littered with hundreds of complaints like those listed here. Most people never think to contact the BBB.A businesses BBB rating is by and large meaningless to me.How companies like this have gotten away with garbage like this for so long is totally disgraceful. This happens ALL the time. They prey on the painfully ignorant. It's shameful that they pay people to comb forums for complaints. What has happened to this person happens regularly. The consumer is always at a disadvantage.I'd be very happy if this thread were closed and Webroot communicated with them in some other fashion.I cannot accept giving a forum voice to people who regularly prey on others.I will NOT apologize for my thoughts on this subject.Any attempt to modify the post, you might as well take that as my resignation here at this forum.A quick lesson for people:just becuase  something apears first in a search query for support,it does not mean it's the right or proper support for your product.Iyogi pays big money to be listed at or near the top of most support queries in search engines. It's big business for them and is actually quite shameful.I could post hundreds of links to even more stories like these.
Hi Dan

I do not see why you should apologise for your views or expressing them here or anywhere else...they are prefectly valid and IMHO expressed in an entirely acceptable and 'professional' way (and for that reason I also cannot see why anyone would want or need to edit your post).  I hope that they feed this debate and we can al become wiser and more informed about this subject...I for one am not.

I think your response rings as hollow as do Comcast's official responses whenever their abysmal calls get recorded and posted online.  If you look online there are myriad complaints:

http://iyogi.pissedconsumer.com/

http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/directory/iyogi

http://www.yelp.com/biz/computer-repair-services-palo-alto

As to the BBB A+ rating, if you actually look at the page:

http://www.bbb.org/new-york-city/business-reviews/computers-hardware-software-and-services/iyogi-inc-in-new-york-ny-99062/

there are 310 complaints.  BBB charges a fee to be listed, and it's pretty easy to game the rating by replying to every consumer complaint until the consumer gives up and goes away.
