When I try forgot my password the reset never comes to the email registered or the cell phone.
Hi Canadayr

Sorry to hear you are having this issue. Can you call the Supprt number I gave you?

Maybe ? do you have any advise?

I don't see a support case using the email address you used for your community account. Did you perhaps open the ticket with another email address?
I have been on the phone with support since Tuesday. They say senior tech support will call back but they don't. Don't know why that can't uninstall the program and re install. It was installed by Microsoft and evidentially they can't get in touch with Microsoft to find out the password that they put in.
Hi ?

May I ask again what Password you are trying to get. Is it the Webroot Password or the Windows Microsoft password? What number have you called may I ask? Are you saying Microsoft installed Webroot?
Yes, as far as I know Microsoft installed Webroot. I have been calling 844-844-2441,
Hi Canadayr

I am afraid that I have looked up this number and it is not a Microsoft number.. Microsoft does not install Webroot. I think this was a scam and if you paid for Webroot then I will call my credit card company and file a claim. Microsoft help number is this

(800) 642-7676 I do believe.

?can you verify the Micorsoft help number?

HTH,

Hi again Canadayr

I would also like to emphasize how sorry we are that this has happened to you. Microsoft again would not install Webroot on your computer. There are many fake support phone numbers on the Web just looking for people to fall for this scam. Here is our write up on this sort of thing.

THIS IS A SCAM!!  Neither Microsoft nor any other company sends emails, pop ups, or phone calls of any kind advising that you

NEWS ARTICLE: Tech Support Scams are on the rise.

Microsoft never issues this type of warning or email or anything of a sort!  Please see the following link for Microsoft's official word on this:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

"Neither Microsoft nor our partners make unsolicited phone calls (also known as cold calls) to charge you for computer security or software fixes.

Cybercriminals often use publicly available phone directories so they might know your name and other personal information when they call you. They might even guess what operating system you're using.

Once they've gained your trust, they might ask for your user name and password or ask you to go to a website to install software that will let them access your computer to fix it. Once you do this, your computer and your personal information is vulnerable."

For more information here's what the United States Federal Trade Commission has to say on the subject::

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0346-tech-support-scams

"In a recent twist, scam artists are using the phone to try to break into your computer. They call, claiming to be computer techs associated with well-known companies like Microsoft. They say that they've detected viruses or other malware on your computer to trick you into giving them remote access or paying for software you don't need.

These scammers take advantage of your reasonable concerns about viruses and other threats. They know that computer users have heard time and again that it's important to install security software. But the purpose behind their elaborate scheme isn't to protect your computer; it's to make money."

This scam is common and has been around for quite a while.  Here is a good Webroot Blog article from April 2013 by Threat Researcher Roy Tobin.

I have to say that Webroot would never take 4 days to solve an issue especially with a password. Right Daniel?
Please help. How can I be sure they are legit or not?

They wanted my computer password so they could work on it while I was gone. I wouldn't do that so I have missed 2 days of work sitting here watching. What is the advice out there?

I turned my computer off. I have been on hold for Webroot tech support for 20 minutes.
Hi Canadayr

Hang in there they wil help you ..sometimes it's a longer hold time then normal I would say!
Thanks. Can Webroot check for anything they might have installed?
Hi Canadayr,

They do have ways of checking these things out for you whether you really have Webroot installed and if Webroot is legit or not.

Support would have to remote into your computer inorder to detect any issues most likely!
