Hi,

I’m having a strange problem where nslookup on the command line is failing when WebRoot is turned on:

eg With WebRoot on:

C:\Users\Webtech>nslookup www.google.com
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  2001:xxx:xxxx:xxxx::1

DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to UnKnown timed-out

After doing “Shut down protection” from the WebRoot icon and entering the Captcha:

C:\Users\Webtech>nslookup www.google.com
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  2001:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx::1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    www.google.com
Addresses:  2404:6800:4006:80a::2004
          172.217.167.68

Strangely enough pings and tracerts in the same command line window work fine whether WebRoot is on or off... it seems specific to nslookup.

Any ideas as to what is causing this and how to fix it?

Running WebRoot Secure Anywhere AntiVirus v9.0.27.49 on Windows 10 Pro 1809 32-bit.

Looks like you’re not the only one. I’m also having this issue, and there is another thread on the same issue that was posted about a week before yours. There’s no resolution posted yet in the other thread. You can try opening a ticket with Support to see what they say.

Here is a link to the other thread.

Sorry for the necropost, but yes, it appears to be fixed as of WebRoot Secure Antivirus v9.0.28.39 for me.
