I got a new computer for Christmas, along with a "WEBROOT scure anywhere" program...Also "McAfee" is running  plus a program called "PC Tune-Up"...To me that kinda says overkill!!! And what is even more puzzling is WEBROOT rana scan found some issues and deleted them...Then PC Tuneup pops up and says t has x-many threats,to register w/ them and they will delete them...Do I really need all 3 of these??? I would think not....Any advice is appreciated...Thank you...

PC optimization programs are scammy and rarely do anything, usually they only hurt things. Remove anything that says it's one.

Remove McAfee unless it's something you're actively paying for.
Hi strangebrew

Weclome to the Community Forums.

EDIT: I see that explanoit has beaten me to it...however we very much disagree about the benefits of utilities/optimisation apps. ;)

There is certainly an element of overkill in what you have installed on your system, and whilst WSA will work well with most major security apps available (it is designed from the ground up to do that by the way), with a couple of known exceptions, you should be fine with both WSA and McAfee installed.  Having said that (and you might assume that we would) WSA will do the job on its own IMHO better than McAfee, so why not uninstall McAfee and go with WSA alone?

In tems of "PC TuneUp" I assume that you are referring to the app from AVG?  If so then that is a different type of app; more of a utilies or optimisation tool kit type of app which has some abilkity to scan for malware but it is limited when compared to what WSA can and does detect/ptotect against.  Having said that it is well worth keeping for the optimisation/toolkit elements of the app...itis very good at that part...in fact I have it installed on one of my systems...an ancient laptop and it has managed to noticeably boost performamce in some areas...but I do not pay much attention to its anti malware capabilities.

So my advice is ditch McAffe, use WSA as you main malware protection app, and PC Tuneup for its maintenance utilities.

Anyone else in the Community with experience of these apps please feel free to chip in...the more advice we can offer strangebrew the better.

Hello strangebrew,

May I also welcome you to the Community Forum,

My opinion is to also ditch McAfee since it pretty much takes over your system . I know it monopized my Dell Computer and a lot of popups for renewals were quite cumbersome. After saying this I also believe that WSA is all you need for malware protection.

As for PC Tuneup does have some resourceful utilities. I use System Mechanic myself but I am very careful when using this program as well.

As for overkill? Maybe so. But I think you should let WSA do its job because it's very light and all updates are from the cloud. Just set it and forget about it!

That's my .02 worth ;)

Best Regards,
Thank you very much for the warm welcomes & the quick responses....
