Recently my computer has been infected with a virus. The virus is called Pricecheop and displays the common "you've won a prize" ads. I have searched my computer program files for suspicious files that may have to do with this application. However I have come up dry. This virus comes up as a google chrome extension that reappears even after deletion. Webroot has come up dry and I am ust looking for some techies to help me out here. Thanks.
Hello Ignis_,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

Price Chop is advertised as a program that displays coupons for sites you are visiting and competitive prices when you are viewing product pages at sites like Amazon. Though this may sound like a useful service, the Price Chop program can be intrusive and will display ads whether you want them to or not.

You can reset Internet Explorer settings to return them to the state they were in when Internet Explorer was first installed on your PC. Also you can reset Firefix, and Chrome .

if you can tell me what browser you have I can tell you how to reset your browser.

Please follow these instructions below and if you cannot, then please issue a Support Ticket.

What you are seeing and describing is what we on the Community refer to as a PUA. (Potentially Unwanted Application)These are very annoying at best in that they cause pop-us, redirect your browser home page, and other behavior that may slow down the computer and direct ads your way, but they are not actually doing anything bad like damaging files or stealing information. Often they are installed intentionally by you the user as browser add-ons for various tasks such as quick search tools.. but they also come with the result of added annoying pop-ups and ads. Other times they 'piggy back' with other software that you installed, or try to 'sneak' onto your system entirely.

WSA does detect and remove many PUA's, and more are being added, but WSA does not detect all of them. A simple browser add-on with PUA behavior that is easy to identify and easy to remove is not likely to be detected and removed by WSA. Those that are intentionally difficult to locate and remove are. Please see THIS LINK for more information regarding Webroot's stance on these annoying programs.

The best thing to do is to submit a Trouble Ticket and ask Webroot Support to take a look and remove these for you.  There is NO CHARGE for this for valid WSA license holder.

Also, we have had a lot of discussion regarding these recently, and I have posted an Idea for Webroot to consider asking them to increase PUA detection.  The more  users that need help removing a particular PUA the more likely and faster that PUA will be added to detection.

Please let us know how you are doping or if this was resolved or not.

Kind Regards,
Thanks Sherry,

This program is named "Price Cheop' with the E. I have tried reverting my browser settings unfortunately and deleting the extension but it re-adds itself. I am using google chrome.
Hi Ignis_,

I'm not finding any information with this PriceCheop Ad Virus. Sorry if I didn't have the right one. BUt I'm not finding any other information on this.

If you've already reset your browsers then have you tried uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it again? Otherwise it's best to issue that Support Ticket free of charge with an active subscription.

Would you please let us know how you are doing with this and what support saids? Thanks!

Regards,

After following the intsructions given to us by the ticket the software is still on our computer.

Windows 8:

• Move your cursor to the bottom right of the screen to open the Charm Bar menu. Click Search, type "appwiz.cpl" (without quotes), and then press Enter on your keyboard.

2. This will open your Control Panel to the list of all programs currently installed on your computer.

3. Scroll down the programs list until you see the software you want to remove.

Note: We want to uninstall any programs that have been installed recently (you can check this with the Install Date column) that you do not recall installing or that you do not need.

4. Click the software entry once to select it, then click Uninstall/Remove.

5. Confirm any messages to uninstall the program.

After removing any programs, there may be additional steps to take to remove any changes made by a PUA.

I had found the pricecheop application in this method however after its deletion the ads came back up again and again. This is becoming quite annoying.
Hi ignis,

Sorry you are still having this issue. Thank you for letting us know what support has told you to do. I would contact support from your previous contact with them and tell them the problem still isn't resolved and they will contact you again and maybe remotely handle this.

Kind Regards.
