mcshield.exe" is the McAfee On-Access Antivirus Scanner from Network Associates, Inc. It monitors your computer's processes, files and registry to attempt to detect and prevent virus infection. Get more detailed information about mcshield.exe and all other running background processes with Security Task Manager.

If I may add to what Sherry has posted...I take it that the scan that you are referring to is with the System Analyzer feature rather than the main Scan feature...and that you know thatnthe former is online a baseline hardware analyser which does not scan formmalware whilst the latter (triggered from the main WSA panel) is the anti malware scan?

 

So, on that assumption, I would not worry about what the System Analyzer is telling you here, as the only way that you can try to resolve the issue (and it is unlikely that you will be able to) is by contacting the author of the app concerned who in this case, if I am not mistaken is McAfee (or infact Intelmwho now own them).

 

Do you by any chance have a copy of a McAfee antivirus or Internet Security Suie installed becuase if youndo thennyouncan resove the issue by uninstalling it and relying on WSA alone to protect you.

Hi Sherry, yeap, it seems that McAfee protection module is working in the real-time.

As I remember McShield can eat over 400 MB RAM, so it's obvious that WSA alerts about memory leak;)

Hi Baldrick, a big kudo for good idea! I fully agree - there is no need to keep them both, I would definitely stay with WSA - having my computer totally protected.

McAfee Security Suite came with the computer.  I uninstalled it.  Then I purchased Webroot, and installed it.
