Coming across an interesting issue this week. As the subject says, Task Manager is freezing/unresponsive when it is opening and only when FireFox is already open. While Task Manager is trying to start up the rest of the my computer is being bogged down as well; mouse is jitter/slow to respond, other applications will slow down as well, video's and music stop working in Firefox. Essential everything until either I can kill task manager by Alt + F4, wait for task manager to finish loading, or force shut down the computer. Those are the symptoms.
To get the expected question out of the way. Firefox is on the latest version 57.0.4. Webroot is on 9.0.18.44 and my windows 10 computer is up to date. This webroot install was purchased online. My computer is a custom built by me, if specs are needed let me know.
I've concluded so far that the root cause IS webroot. If I disable webroot protection, the freeze doesn't occur. This doesn't effect any other browser; IE, Edge, or Chrome. It only happens when Firefox is already open. If you reverse the order task manager loads just fine.
What I've done so far:
- I found hints of other having the same issue and other suggested disabling some aspect of shields. I disabled all of it. no change.
- I have started Firefox in safe mode multiple times along with disabling/preventing the extension for webroot to install in Firefox. I had one instance which I can't seem to reproduce which I had success.
- Reinstalled Firefox(rebooting after un-install).
- Refreshed Firefox through their troubleshooting information in the browser.
- Reinstalling webroot
- Fresh image of Windows 10 (its still the original upgrade from Win7 which I don't recall how long this image has been on this machine)
- I'd like to avoid this if possible just because its a pain to rebuild.
