does webroot use the internet while scanning my computer

Hi alanmc3046
Welcome to the Community Forums.
The short answer is 'Yes' because all the definitions/whitelist that WSA uses are in the Webroot Cloud (WIN). However, it can be used offline as it also uses heuristics as a method of determining threats and its ramps up its use of this protection/detection element when working offline, as well as using a set of 'special' definitions held precisely for this eventuality.
I hope that answers your question satisfactorily? If not or if you have further questions please post back and we will be please to try to answer them for you.
Regards, Baldrick
