I have a techie neighbor who swears by Norton.  He says that Webroot isn't rated in the big anti-virus comparisons and is "superficial."  I bought Webroot because of Geek Squad recommendations.  Is my neighbor right or wrong?
Hi BirdNDiz,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

First of foremost IMO does your techie neighbor really know about Webroot? Norton can't keep up with all the old ways of detecting a virus with the old way of signatures. Can Norton roll back your system if it does miss a virus?

Look here for what Webroot can do for you. A short  video here will explain.https://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Antivirus/What-Happens-if-Webroot-quot-Misses-quot-a-Virus/ta-p/33374

Another video to explain Ransomeware protection. https://www.brighttalk.com/webcast/8241/127363 and infomation here

Look at this Thread https://community.webroot.com/t5/Announcements-and-Release-Notes/WSA-performance-in-MRG-Effitas-360-Assessment-amp-Certification/m-p/164205

Webroot does all this:

Detects, blocks and removes all infections including highly sophisticated

banking malware from your PC in the fastest possible time.

• Has an integrated Identity Shield feature that provides a secondary layer of

defence against financial and information stealing malicious software.

• Identity Shield assumes your PC may already be infected with sophisticated

and hard to detect malware such as a banking Trojan and neutralises the

threat by shutting off its data theft activities on your PC, thereby keeping your

identity and online activities secure.

• Doesn’t need virus definition updates, these go out of date within minutes.

Instead it uses the Webroot Intelligence Network (the world’s largest threat

intelligence database) to identify new files and classify threats in real time.

In this way, it identifies brand new threats in seconds, rather than hours or

days and significantly minimizes the risks posed by malware.

• It is lightweight and uses the least PC resources of any antivirus. At less than

1 megabyte in size, it’s tiny compared to conventional antivirus software that

is on average around 500 megabytes!

• It is extremely fast, according to independent tests it’s the world’s fastest

antivirus. A normal deep scan takes 1-3 minutes depending on your

machine and will not slow down your PC.

What extra protection is offered by Identity Shield?

The Identity Shield protects all the details you share with an internet bank. It protects

information like login details, passwords, account numbers, credit card details and

personal information such as addresses, dates of birth etc. It also adds a second layer of

protection against highly targeted banking and information stealing Trojans to ensure your

identity and online activities are fully secure.

Webroot SecureAnywhere protects you in these ways:

• Identifies if a website you visit is the genuine site making sure it’s not a false

banking (phishing) site

• Ensures your login information is only entered into the website it’s intended

for

• Protects your personal information, even if there’s already unidentified

malicious software on your PC

• Automatically protects your web browser, cookies and saved website data

• Prevents browser attacks from key

The WIN Cloud http://www.brightcloud.com/platform/webroot-intelligence-network.php as all the work is done on there and not your PC also WSA only uses 3 to 6MB of RAM and up to 6 MB's on the Hard Drive for the Client and this is the future and it's here now, how can the other conventional AV's keep up with almost 500,000 new Malware everyday and over 142 million Malware in 2014 alone.

And it's great at protecting your online Credentials so Shopping and Banking online is no worry! :)

 Here the PC User Guide

One more thing...Does Norton have free Support when having any problems? How do they handle there support? Webroot back there product 100%.

Hope I have answered alot of your doubt in the Webroot product.

I believe in Webroot and I'm only a Volunteer here on the Webroot Forum helping others the besy way I can and so are the other Forum Mmebers who believe in Webroot who will stand by this product.

Best Regards,:D

Hi BirdNDiz

That is a great reply from Sherry and I hope it answers your question.

So your techie neighbour swears by Norton and he thinks Webroot is superficial :S.

It could depend on someones meaning of superficial.

Norton is by no means at all superficial, if you do a simple search for how much space does Norton take up on your hard drive you will get a range of answers some of 1Gb of space. So from that point of view Webroot is superficial.

However Webroot may be tiny in comparison but it is powerful, does not hog system resources, it is quick, light etc.

I think there is a popular misconception with people. If they see a program such as Norton (but this could be any of the so called popular ones) for sale in most computer shops they start to think that it must be good otherwise the shops would not stock it, I hate to admit it but I was guilty of that fault once.

Try uninstalling the programs from those so called good AV vendors and see how long it takes and then add on the amount of time it takes to install again and you will soon realise how much of a leader Webroot is.

Just a closing comment now. Webroot does free trials, challenge your neighbour to try it free and then ask him for his opinion. I think we would be interested to know how it goes.

Hi BirdNDiz! I wanted to add that there are a few reasons why Webroot does not appear in all comparisons. Many of them are not particularly credible (charge a fee to be included, are not using valid testing methodology, etc.), so we choose not to participate. We have also elected not to participate in some of the other comparisons because their methodology does not support our new and unique technology, but only works with outdated AV programs. Here is a statement that might be of interest. It sounds like your neighbor is perhaps just not familiar with Webroot, and is only going on some very limited information. If you like, you can let him know that he can try Webroot alongside Norton, as it won't conflict if he has both installed. Thanks so much for asking about this!
Speaking of resource usage of Webroot!  Just got done looking at Task Manager and Webroot is only using about a total of 12mb right now on my machine even though it is monitoring browser activity right now!  So WRSA is very light compaired to others!

Well just over 4MB with 8 tabs open for me!

Daniel ;)

Well at present I have 24 tabs open in Firefox and here is the result

Well here is a recent test From PC Magazine http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372364,00.asp and http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2470312,00.asp
