My Time Warner Cable informed me that my modem was infected a BotNet and could threaten my computers.  I am to insure I am covered with proper security and scan my computer.  Will my webroot secureanywhere provide the security to counter this type of threat.    Or is this just a scam.
Hi SteveRB,

Welcome to the Webroot Community.

Can I ask how you were informed of this?

If you have any doubts to the validity of the notice then I would contact Time-Warner directly and ask them.

Yes, Webroot does protect your computers from being taken over by botnets. You can find more information on this from Webroot here.

I've also found some useful info on protecting your router here.

Hope this info helps,

Hello and Welcome to the Webroot Community!

If you say your Modem is infected with a Botnet then a Factory Reset of the Modem would remove the said Botnet and if it continues then Time Warner would be the ones to help you as it's not a Webroot issue as it can't do anything to the Modem just the Device that WSA is installed on.

Here is some info about this type of issue: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?s=6a65950e3a5018b2d17eee253d14a39a&p=16461663&postcount=1 so it could be a fake Web Page.

Here to contact Time Warner: https://www.timewarnercable.com/en/support/contact-us.html

Thanks,

Daniel

Yea that could be a fake email so the best thing to do is contact your ISP as they are the only ones that can help you if you are infected with a Botnet within your Modem in which I doubt.

Please let us know the outcome!

Thanks,

Daniel 😉
