I cannot load Google Chrome, I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit.
Hello TechnoStuck, welcome to the Webroot Community!

I would to ask a few questions so we can get a little more detail/clarification if you don't mind.

  • How long have you been having the problem?
  • Did you recently install Chrome?  Have you been able to use Chrome on that computer up until now?
  • Did the problem start upon intalling WSA or have you had WSA intsalled for a while without problem?
  • Does it give you any specific arror when you try to load Chrome or just sit and do nothing?
Thanks 🙂  That will help us quite a bit on trying to figure out how to help you on this.
I have been having this problem since I started using WSA.

I have had Chrome installed for years without any problems.

As above the problem started upon installing WSA

No specific error

I can still load Chrome if I switch off WSA
Thanks TechnoStuck,

Perfect answers, thank you very much 🙂  (Sorry to have to ask to many, but it really does make huge differences as to how we can proceed here.)

There are a lot of users who use Chrome, WSA, and Windows 8.1 without a problem, so this would not be a 'global' issue.  It would be something unique to your computer, and thus most likely we can get it fixed.

One thing: my own guess is that it is not related to the Webroot Extensions for Chrome, either the Password Manager or the Web Filter Extension.  If it were the browser extensions causing the issue merely shutting down WSA would not allow Chrome to open as the extensions are still active when WSA is simply shut down.

The first thing I would suggest is the easiest/quickest fix and that is to do a clean install of WSA.  Removing and reinstalling WSA is pretty quick and usually takes well under 10 minutes.  Please try the following and let us know if it helps:

  • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
  • Try opening Chrome and seae if this has helped.

If this fixes it, great, but if not just let us know and we can go from there.  Really, the next step after that is up to you... I would suggest either:

  1. A clean re-install of Chrome (Just like doing the above, reboot the PC after uninstall and after re-install)
  2. Submit a Trouble TIcket and let Webroot Support take a look to see if they can fix it.  This would probably take longer than you doing the Chrome re-install above as there is often an hour or so wait for Support to reply, but it is FREE with your valid WSA license.  Many people are not comfortable with doing software uninstall/reinstall on their own, so it is not problem if you prefer not to do this yourself and would prefer to have Support help you with this.

Let us know here what of the above you try, and if it works, as well as if you do need to contact Support what they need to do in order to fix it.  That will help us here on the Community be able to help others in the future who may experience this problem quicker and easier :)

Thanks!
