Hello BenBacon,

Welcome to the Community!

EDIT:

AddChoices (can also be found as AdChoices virus) is an untrustworthy program, which can be included to 'adware' category. The main reason explaining why we say so is that it has ability to display enormous amount of commercial pop-up ads every time people start their browsing (these messages mostly appear on the right side of the desktop). They should show up when you visit Youtube, Facebook and other sites, but you may also notice them when your browser is NOT opened. Besides, just like any other adware, AdChoices infiltrates systems without a proper permission asked. It does that with a help of freeware. Officially, this program should inform you about various commercial deals, such as coupons, discounts, price comparisons and similar things. However, noone can guarantee that they won't force you to visit an insecure website.  That's why we recommend being very careful when having AdChoices installed on the system. If you want to get rid of its ads, you should eliminate this program from your computer.

Would you please have a look here and try to follow these instructions and let us know how you are doing?

What you are seeing and describing is what we on the Community refer to as a PUA. (Potentially Unwanted Application)These are very annoying at best in that they cause pop-us, redirect your browser home page, and other behavior that may slow down the computer and direct ads your way, but they are not actually doing anything bad like damaging files or stealing information. Often they are installed intentionally by you the user as browser add-ons for various tasks such as quick search tools.. but they also come with the result of added annoying pop-ups and ads. Other times they 'piggy back' with other software that you installed, or try to 'sneak' onto your system entirely.

WSA does detect and remove many PUA's, and more are being added, but WSA does not detect all of them. A simple browser add-on with PUA behavior that is easy to identify and easy to remove is not likely to be detected and removed by WSA. Those that are intentionally difficult to locate and remove are. Please see THIS LINK for more information regarding Webroot's stance on these annoying programs.

The best thing to do is to submit a Trouble Ticket and ask Webroot Support to take a look and remove these for you.  There is NO CHARGE for this for valid WSA license holder.

Also, we have had a lot of discussion regarding these recently, and I have posted an Idea for Webroot to consider asking them to increase PUA detection.  The more  users that need help removing a particular PUA the more likely and faster that PUA will be added to detection.

I hope this helps!

Regards,
If you are talking about the Google Adchoices ads you see on yahoo, youtube, etc, you can easily get rid of them by installing a good adblocker like Adblock Plus or Adguard that filters https. You are not in any danger. The ads are just annoying, not malicious.

Good point!  I think it can be confusing here as there is both a legit ad server called AdChoices for which AdBlock will work, and there is also a malicious application of the same name.

Thanks!
