Webroot SecureAnywhere has found Threat: searchprotect1204.exe Infection: Pua Conduit Search  on my PC and shows that it is trying to remove it.

The screen says Threat Removal Now in Progresss...

Removing malicious threats....

Status shows: Queued

My question is how long should this proceedure take?  It has been over an hour and I see no movement at on on the progress bar and the status still just shows Queued.

Is this stuck and how do I go about aborting it and starting over?

Hello nosteele and Welcome to the Webroot Community Forums!

Please read this to remove as it's not real malware per say it's a PUA and if it continues to be bothersome Submit a Support Ticket and they will help you remove it.

Thank you for the information. It ends up that the threat removal process was stuck so I forced it to stop. I also discovered that PUA never installed so I just deleted the file off the computer.
Hi nosteele

Glad that the issue is sorted for you.  PUAs are a real pain and there is an ongoing debate as to how to handle them as one person's PUA is unfortunately someone else's 'legitimate' program and vice versa.  If you have not already I would run a further scan just to double check that you are rid of the like.

Have a great weekend.

More often than not, there would be no issue had the average user not click blindly during an install, and actually take time to read the agreement.9 times out of 10 you are consenting to install of the garbage. My rule of thumb has always been,if it's free,it's most likely bundled with some kind of adware or something,so then you have 2 choices:avoid the download alltogether,or install and take the time to read the EULA.In some rare cases the free programs will not function with out their adware counterparts,in which case you would not want the program anyways. It's totally frustrating as an end user, that you should have to take the time to read the pages and pages of the EULA,but in most cases it will save you quite a few headaches.
Super, you are absolutely correct. I admit I clicked way too fast without fully paying attention to what I was clicking on.

I realized that I may have done so when another screen popped up with the same "accept" or "decline". Wondering why there was a second screen asking me to "accept" or "decline" I took better look at what appeared at a glance to be the standard EULA and noticed hidden in there was the installation of PC Anywhere and that is what they were getting you to accept. Immediately declining that I wondered what was hidden in the first page that I had accepted.

I found out very quickly via Webroot.

I got off easy and it was a good reminder to pay attention.
Baldrick, thanks for the suggestion. I did a quick scan but think I will do a deep scan to be sure.
I agree that if we dont install the software that webroot says shouldnt be, we would be better off. I have been running web root security plus for a month and scanning regularly and yes it removed pua pipeline or what ever it was and i still have to go back and scan with another program to remove the b.s.. I cant help but wonder why webroot doesnt consider these files a threat.

(malwarebytes). I just found another today after a month of scanning. I only play video games with this computer and web root security plus does not pick these up, as malwarebytes calls them, pup files up.  You know these files will bring your computer to its knees.  Please reply.

I posted about this in another threat, but Malwarebytes and Webroot SecureAnywhere have different criteria for detecting PUAs and PUPs. One may detect something while the other may not. Without knowing exactly what the other program detected, it is difficult to comment on this further. Please submit a support ticket and include the log from Malwarebytes so that we can determine if there is anything that we were actually missing.
