My pc popped up a notice saying an update for Java was available and to download it. I didn't do it because I wasn't sure what that was and a friend said it was a necessity but he often shut his off. I searched the web and it said that Java often has malware and lots of other problems associated with it and many people commented that they did not use it. I know that Webroot is on top of things so to speak, but if this isn't absolutely necessary I don't want to put any extra burdens on my Webroot or myself. Any advice on this? My friend also recommended mywot.com and noscript.net to download .... what do you suggest I do? These are probably pretty basic questions but as I mentioned once before I am not very adept with computer things. 😠 But in the meantime everything is working well (thanks to your previous help :D) Thank you so much.

Hello notpcwise,
Nice to see you again! I'm sorry it's taken so long to reply. But better late then never.:D
My opnion is you have to download from Java.com from their Website only and then you won't have troubles with PUAs or Popups,Malware, etc., and making sure you uncheck any addons with these downloads or any other downloads such as AdobeFlash..etc. for these add ons can cause havic to your computers giving you all sort of problems with popups.
I've never had any issue with Java. on my systems.
Also I've never used MyWot but there is info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WOT_Services
Then you asked about NoScript http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NoScript which I've never used either.
So I wouldn't know much about these services. Maybe@ or @ would know more then I.;)
Hope this has helped and if you have more questions then feel free to ask because that's why we are here in the first place is to help others!
Kind Regards

Go here and install Java SE 8 and if your system is 64bit Download and install both 32bit and the 64bit versions: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html be sure to uncheck any unwanted add-ons (PUA's) if offered. Thank you so much for helping me out. I think as far as MyWot and NoScript I will wait. I have gone to the Java site and have checked it out. The site told me where to go inside my pc to find a Java folder (which I didn't know I had...) and there I find that the updates for my pc are automatic unless I designate differently....all news to me by the way. On the automatic update it notifies me so I have the chance to refuse it if I want to. I am assuming this is the notice that popped up on my pc. So as of right now I will probably do nothing since this seems to be automatic and coming from the valid Java site. All I can say is "Whew!!" and thank you so very much for the help!! :D
Hello TripleHelix! I am so glad for the links you offered because I am truly in a low-information state when in comes to the pc and am anxious to learn at the very least the basics of what I should be aware of. Thank you so much for helping me out! :D
Your very Welcome if you have any other questions feel free to ask!
Cheers,
Daniel
