Hi Team,

I’m new to Webroot so I still have some lingering questions. I use both Chrome and Edge Chromium. I noticed that Webroot’s extension is asking to be enabled. I plan on enabling it in both browsers but I’ve got just one question about it.

Do I need to have the extension for protection against phishing and blocking bad websites or does the identity/phishing shield on the WSA program already provide that? When I read the description of the extension, it talks about phishing protection and blocking websites but I’m just curious doesn’t WSA provide that regardless of the extension’s presence?

Best.

Hello @Tim Bray

Yes allow the Extensions to install and be enabled as the is part of the Web Shield for checking for Phishing, Malware and just plain bad sites! https://www.brightcloud.com/

https://docs.webroot.com/us/en/home/wsa_pc_userguide/wsa_pc_userguide.htm#ShieldingYourPC/ManagingWebThreats.htm%3FTocPath%3DShielding%2520Your%2520PC%7C_____3

Web Shield — Blocks known threats encountered on the Internet and displays a warning. The Web shield maintains information on more than 200 million + + URLs and IP addresses to comprise the most accurate and comprehensive data available for classifying content and detecting malicious sites.

For the Identity Shield well that protects your browsers from many things and it’s one of the best features of WSA IMO. https://docs.webroot.com/us/en/home/wsa_pc_userguide/wsa_pc_userguide.htm#UsingIdentityProtection/ManagingIdentityProtection.htm%3FTocPath%3DUsing%2520Identity%2520Protection%7C_____1

Also you will have to manually add the new Chrome based Edge Browser yourself within the ID Shield like I did below!

And Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome should automatically show in the ID Shield once you open all of them and just check to make sure there all under Protect!

Thanks,

Hi @TripleHelix ,

Would you mind sending me a link to the new filter for Edge Chromium? I’m trying to find it on the Microsoft store but can’t seem to locate it.

Best.

Sure from the Microsoft store within Edge! https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/fmkaflbamgddpjacdmjlkhbnpnlemaea

You will need to put your Webroot keycode to validate it.

Cheers,

Hi @TripleHelix ,

Thanks for the info. Just a heads up, when I installed the extension on Edge, it didn’t ask for the keycode. Do you think it’s probably because I already have WSA running?

Anyways thanks for the link.

Best.

Interesting as most of us had to and see this also: https://community.webroot.com/web-threat-shield-131/how-to-add-the-web-threat-shield-extension-to-the-new-microsoft-edge-341874

Thanks,

Will the extension be available at Opera’s store? But of course right know we can use the chrome one, enabling extensions from chrome.

Not sure but if you can get it from the Chrome store and it works, great! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/webroot-filtering-extensi/kjeghcllfecehndceplomkocgfbklffd

HTH,

So ultimately, if you don’t have the Web Filtering Extension enabled, then the Web Shield does not work?
