Hi,
I wanted to download a folder/drive locking app from softonic and download.com but Webroot went on red alarm when I did and removed 9 threats. Are the threats coming from the downloads themselves or the sites hosting them? One which I wanted to try was "lockmydrive freelocker". I also wanted to try "drivelocker". I would appreciate some input into what Webroot found threatening, also which programs are the best for protecting folders/drives but with regard to simplicity of use as well and what's a safe site to download them from. Thanks.

Hi jp59
I have recently downloaded copies of one of the apps you have mentioned and have had no issues in terms of possible additionally bundled software (PUAs as Beth correctly described them). The recommendation is to download directly from the producer's own website, where possible, rather than most of the 3rd party download sites like thoze that you have mentioned.
One tip is to go to the download site and thenuse the link, to the manufacturer's website, that they usually have, and use that to get to the proper website and ownload from there...that is what I do and wo very rarely come across PUAs.
EDIT: BTW...if WSA has reacted to the PUAs as younhave describedthen you are most likely OK...but carrying out a furthwr scan justbto make sure would be a good idea...and if the worst has occured then you have the instructions provided by Beth.
Hope that helps?
