Google Chrome verses Firefox

A friend told me I should change from Google Chrome to FoxFire for my browser.  I haven't had any problems with Chrome. He said ForxFire is much more secure.  Since I'm not computer savvy I don't want to change without some confirmation he's correct.  Hope someone can give me some input.  Thanks

Hello Orion65,

Welcome to the Community

Here is an article  http://internet-browser-review.toptenreviews.com/

And here is news from ?
https://community.webroot.com/t5/Techie/Firefox-beats-Chrome-and-Tor-in-our-trustworthy-browser-poll/m-p/223195#M9172

I happen to use Firefox. Chrome and Safari. I find FF to be my perfered browser. Maybe others on the Forum can add what they think is the safest browser? Or add their opinions..

Nothing is 100% secure. But using an Antivirus protection and keeping your browser updated does help. It's really a choice I think in the long run. These browsers are always being updated and patched for security.

Hope this helps?

Hi Orion65

I don't think that there is much to chose between Firefox and Chrome when it comes to security but IMO Firefox wins hands down regarding privacy. There are also many add-ons that will make Firefox even more private than it is "out of the box".

Google's Chrome likes to track you for its commercial ends whereas Mozilla's Firefox is open source. Like Sherry you will have worked out that I also favour Firefox but at the end of the day it's a matter of personal choice. You can easily give Firefox a try whilst still retaining Chrome on your system - it's not a matter of one or the other.

Just to let you know that Webroot only supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari  so some will not get the Web Filtering and Password Manager Extensions also some have work arounds to get them installed like Chrome based Browsers and Firefox based Browsers.

Thanks,

Please look to see if it's in your Chrome Browser as gray circles are not normal when doing searches. If you feel you can't do it please Submit a Support Ticket and they will help you!

Thanks,

Sure thing! I use Firefox 64bit, Chrome 64bit and Cyberfox 64bit and I got the Web Filtering extension installed in all of them but had to use a work around to get it installed on Cyberfox 64 bit see here the same for Palemoon and Unofficial: https://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Complete/Unofficial-Webroot-filtering-extension-in-Palemoon-Unofficial/ta-p/142217

All versions come with the Web Filter so try the instructions above to check and manually install the Web filter and check here as to what Product you have: http://www.webroot.com/En_US/SecureAnywhere/PC/WSA_PC_Help.htm#C12_MyAccount/CH11b_ActivatingKeycode.htm

Just download and install it from here:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/products/

It will have a wizard after the install to import bookmarks and history from whatever browser you are using now.

Just my humble opinion first  I have not used the " E" browser in foreve !r i would'nt even if they gave me money !
I really like Chrome and I know everyone is going to have a prefference. I like the ease of clearing my cookies and other history with Chrome while other web engines, I think you may need to be a Nasa sceincetist t do it :-)
So Chrome is My choice
Hi chiparoo,

To do this in Firefox it's really not hard. Please look here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-browsing-history-and-cookies-firefox-os

Thank you for your input! It's great to have involvement and opinions from others!;)

Did you check your Chrome Browser?

If you don't see the Extension or extensions please follow this to manually install the Web Filter!

https://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Complete/Waiting-for-Webroot-Extensions-in-google/m-p/218311#M13810 and let me know what WSA Product you have: http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/

Would suggest to all considering using Firefox that you take a look at CyberFox, a Firefox derivative that is supposedly more secure and faster/lighter.

I cannot vouch for the security side of things but to me the speed and lightness are definitively better with CyberFox. Only down side is that as it is not a support browser the Webroot Extensions need to be manually installed.

Hello AZFD,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

Are you asking for the Password Manager extension in the Firefox Browser?

This sometimes does happen and to try to resolve it you can try running the Toolbarfix tool.  You can download it for here.  Once downloaded launch it by clicking on the executable, and you should see the following, and  click on 'Run':

which should then take you to the following dialog:

on which you should choose/check the option 'Repair/Install the Webroot Toolbar' and then press 'Start'.

That should initiate the fix process and you just have to wait for it to finish, close the dialog and then check in your browser to see if the Password Manager Toolbar icon is now visible.  If the fix has been successful you should see the following greyed out icon in a toolbar at the top of the IE browser page:

One then double cliks on that so that the login dialog is presented, etc.

Please check the above out and come back if anything is not clear or if it does not help.
OK, I got it to update to 44.0.
Now when I check add-on's, those are there:
Yes, thank you Sherry. New to this forum thing...

Hi Oldhenwife

Ghostery is a privacy add on/extension that one can add to most browsers, and it serves a useful purpose...in that propoerly configured it can enhance you online privacy.

If you do unintall Chrome then, assuming that it has been installed/added to Chrome, Ghostery will also be effectively uninstalled. Having said that, Ghostery can also be added to Firefox and it may be that this is where the Ghostery panel is coming from? Personally, I would read the panel carefully as I believe that it is a wizard that guides you through the set up of the add...and if I were you I would keep it installed as it does a good job re. the aforementioned privacy aspect.

Nothing else to know or consider other than Firefox/Chrome are both very good browsers and therefore it is a toss up as to which to use...most likely you should use the one that you get on best with.

Hope that helps?

Being impulsive I did delete Chfome. The 'problems' I had haven't recurred  - yet.

No idea what Ghostery is or what it does. I suspect that I souldn't understand anyway. Certainly not inmy present alcoholic condition! We had hare and an excellent wine :-)

Now off tobed. I'll look tomorrow.

Hi Oldhenwife

Sounds like quite a do...and definitively a good idea not to mix internet security with pleasure...;)

You can find all the information you might need HERE. If and when you decide to take a look pelase let us know and we can answer questions as many of us use this extension.

Regards, Baldrick
My son had my computer set up for me years ago for a Christmas present and I have had FireFox.  Being an elderly person I am not as savy as most with technology but find that FireFox has worked very well for me.  We also use this at my place of work.
