The Windows 10 Action Center is constantly giving me a notification to check my antivirus software. The message states that both Webroot and Windows Defender are turned off. When I check Security and Maintenance in the Control Panel, it says that Webroot Secure Anywhere virus protection and spyware protection is turned on. I just recently started receiving this notification after months of running the computer with the upgrade to Windows 10. I do have Windows Defender turned off, because my prefernce is to run Webroot. I have run several "deep" scans with my Webroot app with zero threats found. Any suggestions?

The faux Win 10 Action Center notification issue appears to have abated on my primary workstation following a reboot. Nothing of note was installed just prior to or immediately following the reboot other than KB3119142 which is related to 2012 Visual C++. Seems an unlikely correlation. Not sure what happened when - just happy the spamming has stopped. Yeah!

Hello ?
I'm aplogize for saying that other AVs are having this similair issue. I Ineglected to check the time line on my link.. I am a Volunteer here that tries to help others the best way I can. So I don't always have the right answers to these questions but I do care about the Webroot members and Webroot itself. This is not a perfect world with perfect AV's. None are 100%. Of course I don't need to tell you that.
I still say Webroot stands behind their product and the Webroot Developers do the best they can IMO ...

I'm the one that posted the link to other AV's were having those issues as well but true some are not in the same timelime but it does show other AV's had simular issues to what WSA is having for the past month with Action Center. There have been so many changes in Windows 10 which will cause these types of issues and here is a new Google search with recent results: https://www.google.ca/search?q=action+center+reports+antivirus+turned+off&biw=1920&bih=883&source=lnt&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A2016-02-01%2Ccd_max%3A2016-04-01&tbm=#tbs=cdr:1%2Ccd_min:2016-02-01%2Ccd_max:2016-04-01&q=action+center+reports+antivirus+turned+off

Sherry,
Uninstall/reinstall seems to have worked. Looks like we've never left the "old days" when Windows Update broke something and that usually fixed the problem. I appreciated your providing the download link; but, Webroot was smart enough to provide me a link to re-download the installer with keycode, and it installed with my keycode already there.
Thanks,
Rick

It's really been hard on us in the fact that we cannot reproduce this issue. I totally agree. In fact I have 3 systems running Windows 10 without these popups. One is a 64bit and 2 a 32 bit. Two were a clean install of W 10 and one was an upgrade. So very strange isn't it. I think we have thoughtr of everything to figure out why the notifcations happen to some and not all. Oh and also to mention I have different model machines as well.
I would wait a while and see what happens after a bit of time and a few reboots as we have had reports of initial success followed by a re-emergence of the issue...unfortunately.
Hello Davey126,
You are correct I quess with that staement but sometimes that reinstall has helped others but the big issue still lies as you say untill a new realease of Webroot will help this.

Hello ?,
The Webroot Development team has been notified of this issue and is currently working on a resolution.
We expect to address this issue in an upcoming software version release, which will be downloaded automatically to your computer and installed when it is available. Please note that Webroot SecureAnywhere is functioning properly and it is protecting your device as expected. However, if you find these alerts to be bothersome, you have a couple of options.
You may either disregard the notification that temporarily indicates your security is turned off or you may disable the notifications in Windows Security Center by following the instructions below:
1. In the bottom left of the desktop, search for Control Panel
2. Click on “System and Security”
3. Click on “Security and Maintenance”
4. On the left side menu click “Change Security and Maintenance settings”
5. Uncheck the box for “Spyware and unwanted software protection” and “Virus Protection”
6. Click “OK”
7. Restart your computer.
If you select the latter, once we’ve release a new version that addresses this issue, it is advised that you re-enable the settings above by checking the boxes “Spyware and unwanted software protection” and “Virus Protection”
Additionally, once the newer version has been installed, please check to see if the issue you reported is still occurring. If it is, please let us know as we will need to troubleshoot the issue further.
I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.
Have a great day!
Regards,

Just wanted to add my experience. This first time Action Center reported this(probably about 3 weeks ago-no restart or patches involved-I was in the middle of watching a 2 hour video)),I found WebRoot turned off and Windows Defender was running a scan. When Windows Defender finished,I turned WebRoot back on and WD off.Since then I get Action Center reports about twice a day,but I have never found WebRoot turned off again.I am going to wait until there is an official fix.
Fair enough. It does show that key words matter when searching; your query is remarkably simple yet effective in identifying a number of competing products with similar issues (I may have been too specific). That said, the duration of this problem annoying and seems to disproportionately impact Secure Anywhere products. Or perhaps Webroot users are just more vocal.
Looking forward to a fix.
Looking forward to a fix.
Thanks, and good to know it's just a glitch caused by a Microsoft update (like that's never happened before!) and not a virus or malware.

Hi mkolina
I sincerely hope so but I am afraid that the track record for the 'fix' does not seem to be a good one and there appearas to still be some work to do to get a definitive fix to the issue...but lets hope that what you have doen works for you. ;)

Thanks - that was the problem. I have the search box displayed now, and was able to complete the process described earlier by Ssherjj. I'll see if that has ended those annoying Action Center messages - so far, so good.
Hi apostle92627
Sorry to hear that. We have heard that Webroot are still very much on the case and given that I would say that there are high hopes for a solution soon.
But given that this is (I am fairly certain of this) at its source an issue cause by Microsoft Updates; which therefore means changes made by them with the way that 3rd party application interact with the OS, care has to be taken to make sure that whatever the fix is it does not cause further issues, hence the time being taken to get it right.
I have no information to confirm this view but it is my considered opinion...so the word is patience...at least for the moment, and in the Webroot Develop & Support Team we trust. ;)

I just got hit with the notification again. I'm just going to turn off these kinds of notifications until you guys are able to patch it. Not what I want to do but I'm tired of seeing the notification. 😞
Actually is was fixed as we Beta testers were testing it and Tuesdays Windows Updates broke it again. :@

Hi Davey126
Understand the frustration but unfortunately, as far as I understand it (i) the issue was caused by changes in Windows and therefore to a certain extent the Webroot Support Team are on the back foot as a result, (ii) the issue only affects some users NOT all, (iii) and there in is the rub as when trying to identify the cause of such a problem it is more difficult when it only manifests itself some of the time and then only for some users, & (iv) finally, when producing a fix for those affected one has to be very, very careful to not adversely affect thos not affected by the issue...as that may only make matters worse.
I am sure that the Support Team are doing all that they can to get to the bottom of this. But if you feel very strongly about this I would Open a Support Ticket to let them know first hand.

Thank you for further information! I do feel much better now knowing this! ;)

Well it's been over a month! Also I don't have this issue on my 2 Laptops with Windows 10 and most of us VIP's didn't as well so I couldn't reproduce and that made it confusing to why some had this issue and some didn't. And hopefully they will release a new version ASAP like today would be nice.
Thanks,
Daniel

I assure I take no pleasure in seeing that I havve been proved right. I hope that Webroot manage to get to the bottom of this soon, and am sure that theynare doing their best..@ wrote:
You were right. I rebooted about three times just for fun, and everything seemed OK. But, while I was using Thunderbird 38.7.0 to compose an email message, the notification popped up. That reminded me about when the notifications often were popping up. This may or may not add another dimension to the issue, but that's what happened here.

Hi Sherry (@Ssherjj)
No disrespect intended. As previously noted I very much appreciate the prompt responses and encouraging tone from the moderators of this forum. Several weeks back someone (poster or moderator) mentioned multiple AVs experiencing this problem and the statement simply carried forward. I share your optimism regarding the upcoming release and hope it clears the Win 10 notification problem. The other type of annoying pop-up (personal security report) has been an issue for 18+ months based on reports other posters. It would seem the Webroot devs and/or marketing folks have opted to retain this 'feature' - possibly as a remider of which AV product is on duty as most hide in the system tray unoticed on a clean system.

Webroot should proactively notify every customer of this problem -- and the solution. Their customer will obviously be very worried when Windows 10 repeatedly tells them, "Your AV protection is turned OFF!! -- Click here to do something NOW!"
Webroot should not leave customers hanging out to dry -- searching Google for answers.

It's just cosmetic as WSA is still protecting you and it took time as Webroot had to converse with Microsoft because of recent Windows Updates: https://community.webroot.com/t5/Webroot-SecureAnywhere-Complete/Webroot-turned-off-showing-message-numerous-times-on-slide-in/m-p/243811#M16587@ wrote:
I agree with BVilleBound. I'm not expecting the company to reply to every email, but sending out a mass email notification to their subscribers to let us know they're are aware of the problem and working on a solution would go a long way. They are certainly able to contact us when it's time to renew our subscription, so they can also contact us when there is a problem like this affecting so may of their customers.
Just be patient a fix will be out soon.
Thanks,
Daniel
