Yes that was a scam, well spotted. I hope you did not contact them although I am under the impression that you didn't.

I can find some people reported the number, even since last month at http://www.whycall.me/844-789-6976.html. All you need to do is just don't call the number, and next time, if there's someone cold calling you and ask for some information, just hung up immediately. Scammers are working hard nowadays.

hi i know this is a scam but why did i get url with ip - ~ snip please don't post bad links on the Community! snip ~

 

anyways i guest this is a good thing as i now know that the ip is from hong kong and there is only one website using this ip so im guessing contact the domain provider and tell them this site is phishing.

 

can you help me out by telling me what info is the provider as it usually comes up as domain host or registrar.

I got scammed last fall when a pop up from "microsoft" appeared on my new laptop warning me I had a virus. I stupidly believed it and ending up paying $250 for the "service" to go through all my drives and clean everything (and there was really nothing there) and then give me "Lifetime service" with WebRoot. Bad enough. Then this week the same person contacted me to do the "annual check" of my computer. I asked if this would cost anything and they said only if they find something. I said forget it. That's when I finally googled WebRoot scams and found out yes, I had been. So warning...it's not over with one scam. Wish there was someway these guys could be found and thrown in jail, but I'm sure they're out of the country. Wish that Microsoft would post warnings to consumers ahead of time that they never do this.
