Defining and securing the Internet of Things

The EU Cybersecurity Agency ENISA published a report on the security of the Internet of Things (IoT). The study aims to set the scene for IoT security in Europe. It serves as a reference point in this field and as a foundation for relevant forthcoming initiatives and developments.

With a great impact on citizens’ safety, security and privacy, the IoT threat landscape is extremely complex. Therefore, it is important to understand what exactly needs to be secured and to implement specific security measures to protect the IoT from cyber threats. This is particularly important in the context of ICT systems, which are either critical infrastructures themselves or essential for the operation of critical infrastructures.

HP accused of sneaking CPU-sapping telemetry onto users' PCs in recent update

HP has responded to complaints from users over a telemetry app that, they claim, was introduced in a recent update and which is affecting their PCs' performance. HP says that the app isn't new and that it has used the telemetry software since 2014. It added that users can opt-out or uninstall the service at any time and that the app anonymises any data that it sends back to HP.

Complaints have since flooded the company's own forums, where users have suggested that the software is slowing down their systems.

Android Cryptocurrency Wallet Apps Are a Security Disaster Waiting to Happen

The vast majority of Android mobile apps available on the official Google Play Store that are meant for the management of cryptocurrencies are vulnerable to the most common and well-known vulnerabilities, according to a report published today by Swiss cyber-security firm High-Tech Bridge.

High-Tech Bridge researchers used Mobile X-Ray to scan 90 popular Android apps for common vulnerabilities and various weaknesses and say that over 90% of all apps "may be in trouble." The type of vulnerabilities the security firm discovered are inconceivable if we take into account that we're in 2017 and security experts have been preaching about these bugs for almost a decade.
