Unable to update Java?

Win7 Pro x86.
I ran an update checker, and Java had a new update available on 7/14/2014!?- Java 8 Build 11
I usually get a check weekly n otification, but not this time?
 
I tried to update it from the Control Panel GUI, but said could not connect to server...?
 
So I downloaded it from Filehippo, and installed it manually-
Restarted three times, and IE10 Java verify is blank?- Even though a new Java version shows in Manage Addons.
 
When I'm installing Flash/Java/... in IE10/FF30, do I need to temp shutdown WSA protection (I see the lock on my W taskbar icon),  the same for program installs/uninstalls & defrag?
