Hi bobby,

Welcome to the Community!

In the assumption that you are needing these enabled in your web browser, you should be able to find the control for these within the browser settings.

If you are either not able to locate the settings for your browser, please let us know which browser you are using and we will try to provide you step by step directions.

Thanks for the help!  I use Google as a browser and java is enabled.  I've even gone so far as to add the desired sites in the security section without help.  What I'm trying to do is view some web cams at our local college.  Thanks!

Hi Bobby!

Look in your programs list on yoru PC and open the Java Settings or the Java Control panel.
Click on the Security tab.
Make sure that "Enable Java content in the browser" is checked.

Also, verify your Security Level. If you are a very careful user, you can set it to Medium. All Java related applications will run after a security prompt. If you want to leave the Security Level at High or Very High, you can add the website hosting the webcams to the website exception list, allowing them to run after the security prompt.

Java was already enabled and as to security level I have only the choice of high or very high - no medium. Thanks for the help

Hi bobby,

Did you check in Chrome?

Click the Chrome menu icon on the browser toolbar. On the "Settings" page, click the Show advanced settings... link. Select Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended) in the "JavaScript" section.

I still cannot get Hulu to work in either Chrome, IE 11, or Edge.  The webpage says I need to enable JavaScript in my web browser, but I'm pretty sure I've done that since all those boxes are checked.

Then it also says I need to configure my security software or browser plug-ins to allow Hulu to load JavaScript.  I've tried going through the steps in the various browsers to get it to work, but haven't had any luck.

I'll probaby need step-by-step instructions to make sure I do everything right.  Thanks.

Matt

Hello mtoman,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

Please look here at these PC User Guide articles that can help you with unblocking Hulu..

Managing active connections

You can also submit a Support Ticket if you need files whitelisted.

Lets try to put into English the essence of the areas where a user can tailor what WSA does to protect the system

There are essentially 3 key areas where this can happen/a user can override WSA.  These are essentially reached, from the main WSA panel, as follows:

1. PC Security > Quarantine > Detection Configuration
2. Identity & Privacy > Protected Applications
3. Utilities > System Control > Control Active Processes

and once there the user usually has the options to:

A. "Allow"
B. "Protect/Monitor"
C. "Block/Deny"

In the case of 1. Detection Configuration

If an item is set to:

- "Allow", WSA ignores it during scans and shield actions, meaning if it's a virus that has been allowed, it can continue acting as a virus acts.  Be careful of what you allow in this area and ensure it's something you trust implicitly if you are going to change the status from Block to Allow.

- "Monitor", WSA will watch the item to determine if it is legitimate or related to malware.  It is not necessary to add files into this list or set files to monitor manually unless you are changing them from a Block or Allow status.  This might be useful if for example you think Webroot might have had a false positive on something and you want to check again at a later time to see if the determination has changed.  You could set it to Monitor and have Webroot check it again.

- "Block", then WSA will treat the items as it would detected malware.  It will not be executed, and it will not be written to your hard drive.  Detected infections are automatically set to a Block status.

In the case of 2. Protected Applications

- "Allowed applications" are not secured against information-stealing malware, and also have full access to protected data on the system. Many applications unintentionally access protected screen contents or keyboard data without malicious intent when running in the background. If you trust an application that is currently marked as "Deny," you can change it to "Allow."

- "Protected applications" are secured against information-stealing malware, but also have full access to data on the system. By default, web browsers are assigned to the "protected" status. If desired, you might also want to add other software applications to "protected," such as financial management software. When you run a protected application, the Webroot icon in the system tray displays a padlock.

- "Denied applications" cannot view or capture protected data on the system, but can otherwise run normally.

And finally, in the case of 3. Control Active Processes

If a process is set to:

- "Allow" it means WSA allows it to run on the system. It's important to note that if an item is already allowed here, that's because Webroot knows already from seeing the file before that it's ok to allow.

- "Monitor" status means WSA will journal what that program is doing and keep a very close eye on it for any suspicious activity.  Basically it would treat it as if it wasn't already sure about it one way or the other, and it wants to monitor it closely until it's sure about it.

- "Block" means just that...iWSA does not allow it to run on the syste.  Be very careful about what you block in this area and ensure that anything you decide to block is a non-essential process.  Otherwise, you could be setting yourself up for a lot of grief if you block something critical.

Hope this helps, please let us know if you need additional assistance or have other questions.
We will be glad to help you.

Hi mtoman

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If I may add to what Sherry has posted...here are the step by step instructions for:

CHROME

  1. Click on the icon in the top right hand corner of the web page (the one with 3 horizontal lines) and select "Settings".
  2. In the "Settings" section click on the "Show advanced settings"
  3. Under the the "Privacy" click on the "Content settings".
  4. In the new dialog window, look for the "JavaScript" section and select "Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)".
  5. Click on the "OK" button to close it.
  6. Close the "Settings" tab.
  7. Use F5 key or click on the "Reload this page" button of the web browser to refresh the page.
IE

  1. On web browser menu click "Tools" icon (denoted by the Gear or Cog symbol) and select "Internet Options".
  2. In the "Internet Options" dialog select the "Security" tab.
  3. In the "Security" tab click the "Custom level" button.
  4. In the "Security Settings - Internet Zone" dialog window, scroll down and look for the "Scripting" section.
  5. For the "Active Scripting" item select "Enable".
  6. When the warning message displays: "Are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?" select "Yes".
  7. Then click "OK" button to close it.
  8. Use F5 key or click on the "Refresh" button of the web browser to refresh the page.
GIve the above a try or check that when you tried previously to enable Java Script you did the above. Either way hopefully this will clarify whether or not you have done the correct steps.

In terms of Edge, the Settings menu therein does not seem to contain a way of enabling or disabling JavaScript, as far as I can see.

Hopefully, either the above or what Sherry has posted (when following the instructions she has posted you should be looking for the main Hulu executable which is "huludesktop.exe", but there are also a couple of plugins that it may be worth keeping an eye for als in terms of blocks, allows & monitoring, namely "nphdplg.dll" & "hdIEPlg.dll").

Do let us know how you get on. ;)

Regards, Baldrick
