Using Tiny Wall

Hi,
Can you use Tiny Wall (small firewall for WIN 7) with the Webroot antivirus firewall?   I know Webroot uses WIN 7 firewall, but it might be intergrated with Webroot's inner security set-up.

Thanks

Hello acme,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

Yes I do think you could use another Firewall with Webroot. I do know some who do on this forum. Maybe some of our other Forum members can add to this. I'm not familiar with using Tiny Wall.

But if you do turn off WIndows Firewall then you can install a good/reputable 3rd party firewall to handle the inbound connections, and there is no reason as to why you should not if you have such a product available...

For further assurance please see this official Knowledge Base article on the subject. Also have a  look at the User Guide

Hope this helps & if not then please come on back

Kind Regards,.

Hello  and Welcome to the Webroot Community Forums!

TinyWall - compact tool that works in conjunction with a firewall Windows 7 / Vista to improve network security.
After installing the software automatically blocks all outbound connections, except a few trusted applications(IE, Firefox, etc..)

You do not need to install TinyWall, all necessary functions are available in firewall Webroot (Control outbound  connections in Win 7)

Since I had Tiny Wall I learned what it does. Tiny Wall is just a control for Windows firewall, not a total different firewall.  It Whitelist programs and blocks other programs from passing through.  Does Webroot's firewall just block outbound when it needs to?
I don't want Tiny Wall to interfere with Webroots firewall, but just wanted to know if it was still ok since WIN 10 is out now.

From: http://live.webrootanywhere.com/content/599/Managing-Firewalls
"The SecureAnywhere firewall is preconfigured to filter traffic on your computer. It works in the background without disrupting your normal activities. If the firewall detects any unrecognized traffic, it opens an alert where you can block the traffic or allow it to proceed."

Haven't tried TinyWall, but using Privatefirewall here for a long time without issues.

Best to precise that Tinywall is a firewall HELPER, i.e., it effectively front ends the Windows Firewal and does not replace it...so if using it you need to keep the WIndows Firewall enabled..obviously.

Whilst Private Firewall is a REPLACEMENT for the Windows Firewall, being a true firewall in its own right, and therefore should not be run in conjunction with the WIndows Firewall...as in most cases two firewall's runningat the same time will not work well together.

Hope that clarifies the position?

I never used 'Private Firewall'.  I know not to use 2 firewalls or 2 Anti-viruses .

And indeed, why would you...if yo are using WSA & therefore Windows Firewall then there is no need. Having said that Private Firewall is a well regarded firewalland recently made compatible with Windows 10.

Sorry if I may have 'swerved off' a little here by mentioning PFW, and was not suggesting it to be similar to TinyWall, but more to emphasize that WSA has such widespread compatibility, should one choose to run something else in addition to WSA, as some do, such as an anti-exec or anti-exploit software etc.

But also important to recognise how SecureAnywhere is fully adequate as a 'sole protector', for sure.

Each to his/her own preferences.

I'm confused, I never mentioned 'Private Firewall',  I was asking about Tiny Wall.   :8
Oh well, I'll figure it out myself.

Hi acme

No you did not but the thread was 'enlarged' by a posting about an alternative to the Windows Firewall, i.e., Private Firewall which is why I posted an expose on the fundemental difference between that and TinyFirewall, that can front end Windows Firewall/provide more control.

Hopefully that clarifies?
