I just renewed my subscription. How long should it take to update and start working again?

That very much depends on whether you r purchased the Best Buy version or the Webroot (standard) version.
 
As a rule, with the Webroot version I would allow 2-4 hours and to give the thing a push you could try running a manual scan...as that causes communication with the Cloud we have found that on occassin it will nudge the update back from Webroot re. the subscription renewal.
 
If the Best Buy version I would allow 24 hours, as the information has to get from Best Buy's systems to Webroot's and then back to you.
 
Do note though that even if you r subscription has expired you will still have protection for a 30 days grace period after expiry to cater for/give you time to undertkae the renewal process...so you should still be well protected whilst you away the update arrival.
