antivirus

Does anyone else have the problem of your windows 10 pop up with notifications saying your antivirus, antispyware is turned off when it is in fact on?

Completely understand where you are coming from, and it is probably more frustrating when the issue is known to not affect every users. The only thing I can say in mitigation is that it would appear that the issue is of Microsoft's making rather than Webroot, as users of other security apps have reported similar issues.
 
So we can only hope that MS gets their finger out and sorts the issue soon.

I called Microsoft and they knew nothing about the issue. Said it was Webroots problem. I have been messaging Webroot about the situation and they said it was on their end and they are working on it. Thanks for replying.

Well, that is strange as we have had reports of discussions with Microsoft and that the issue was at there end...but perhaps I have misunderstood...still it is strange that there are reports of other security apps having similar issues. :S

I have kept all of my messages from webroot support. That is strange that Microsoft said it was on their end when they told me they do not know anything about it and have no other calls about the problem. That is when they told me was on Webroots end. Mercy! Now my Defender is turned off bc I have the Webroot Secure Anywhere. I have always have had the upmost confidence in Webroot. I know eventually it will be resolved. Thanks again for responding so quickly.

No worries...we are as mystified as the next person...but in the Webroot Support Team we trust...if anyone can figure it out it is them...:D

Hello, My name is Todd and I am brand new to the community. I was able to get the fake notifications to stop popping up. Please be advised that I  am not an expert and you should always check with Webroot staff when you are unsure. The thing that is suspicious to me about this fake notification is that " if it is in fact malicious in nature and not just a simple glitch" its leading everyone to immediately check the status of Windows Defender and their antivirus program. It appears that it is tricking you into turning  your antivirus and firewall off and on to check its status . This makes you extremely vulnernable if  this is a hack and not just a glitch. I would never turn off or uninstall Webroot or your Windows firewall until Webroot has isolated and solved this issue. I still have not found at this time anywhere on the net that knows what this is yet. I did read that it is not just happening to Webroot subscribers leading me to believe it is in fact a Microsoft issue.
 
 What I did first was disconnect my computer from having internet access so that your PC can't connect to Microsoft to install automatic updates when your computer reboots . Second I went to a past restore point in my recovery file. I then went back to 03/05/2016 before the Adobe Flash Player Security update and a few other Windows updates that were  installed.. The reason I tried this was to check to see if it was caused by the recent Windows updates. After my computer restored succesfully I have stopped getting the notifcations saying that Windows Defender and Weroot are turned off. Now I guess I am going to wait it out until we get some news.good luck Todd

Hello again it's Todd following up to my last post.. I just used the same method on my second computer and cleared it from any notifications appearing. This time I was curious and allowed a Windows 10 update to be installed and sure enough the notifications came back....Again , I am no expert.............

Sorry to hear that after such a promising post you have fallen foul of this annoyance that seems to be plaguing security application at the moment, including WSA. What is interesting is that what you have experienced would seem to confirm what has been mooted, but also refuted by some, that the issue appears to have been introduced by a recent Windows Update...it will be interesting to see if that is indeed confirmed in the final analysis. ;)
 
We know that the Webroot Support Team is working hard to find a solution and I think that it is just a case of being patient with their efforts to find a fix that will definitively stick.

I called Microsoft again and they were telling me that I should use their Defender and not use a 3rd party antivirus. Amazing, they actually thought I would go for that and I told them I am using Webroot and they need to get the problem fixed. From what I am reading on the community board, this is happening to other antivirus programs. I still stand firm with Webroot! Thought I would let you know. Thanks for all your info.

Good for you...personally Windows Defender has a very, very, very long way to go before I would even dream of unleashing it on my system...by that point WSA will have improved again so as to make the possibility as remote as it is now. ;)
