Hello - I hope that I am posting to the correct board.
Using a Mac desktop, I serached in Safari for a free online movie. Unfortunately, when I clicked on a site (megashare.sc)
I immediately got a popup reading:
http::// web-support-online.org
Critical security warning! YOur system is infected with a malicious adware attack.
Contact tech support at 1-866-614-5693 to resolve threats . . .
Well, it did not identify that it was a WEBROOT alert and I hesitate to call the 866 phone number.
So. is this a Webroot alert or is it some hoax?
And can I use Webroot to check for what just happened on my machine?
Any help is appreciated!

Macintosh Attack?

Hello ?, welcome to the Community
It is a hoax, and you should be able to safely disregard it. It sounds like it is simply a web page designed to make itself look like a security warning.. that is becoming more common. The problem is if you call the number. They will ask you to allow a remote session, for which you will be charged, a lot, and during which you then might have malware installed by them.
I hope this helps!
