Webroot randomly disables UAC

Forum|alt.badge.img+1
Hello guys,

I have a question - Webroot SA randomly seems to disable UAC (checking from time to time my Action center shows UAC set to never notify). I can't see a pattern in this. Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any advice would be welcome.
My PC is running Windows 8.1 update 1, no other security software installed besides Hitman Pro for occasional check-ups.

I have never seen Webroot disabling UAC, all it does it report to the security centre that its running. What exactly happens? Do you get an alert saying no AV is running?

No, everything is fine, Webroot is registered in the Action center. But simply UAC gets disabled randomly or at least this is what it shows in the Action center. And I know that Webroot is the culprit as I have installed and uninstalled it a few times and it always occurs. When Webroot is uninstalled, no such issues.

Interesting, can you replicate the behaviour? Generally speaking I only see UAC issue`s with an infected PC or PC`s with other issues. Can you create a support ticket and I`ll send you our diagnostic program.

Well, I can not replicate it on purpose as it is random but it is always happening when I have Webroot installed. My PC is not infected, I'm sure of that. The odd thing is that sometimes even though it says "never notify" for UAC level in the Action Center, I still get UAC prompts.
Right now I'm at work where I don't have Webroot installed, I'll get in touch again when I get home.

Hi metamorph

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I would recommend an uninstall/clean reinstall, as follows:

Uninstall, REBOOT, install (making sure that you do not accpet the reimporting of any previous settings if so offered by the installer, REBOOT, and then monitor to see if the behaviour you have reported continues.

Of course, to be doubly sure you could download a new version of the installer (am assuming that yo are no a Best Buy version user), and also make sure that you have your keycode avaialble as yo will need it duringthe install process.

If not then it was most likely a corrupt install...if it does then I would Open a Support Ticket to let the Support Team take a look at this unusual behaviour.

Hope that helps?

Regards

Hi guys!

Hope it's okay if I chime in here? I have to say that you are not the only one with this issue metamorph, as occasionally it happens to me to, although the UAC shows that it actually is set to prompt even though it doesn't. Other times the UAC will still prompt me but instead of dimming and locking the whole screen until I respond, it is just a little popup prompt. Like you, I can't reproduce it as it only happens at random, but I just thought I should chime in so Webroot knows you are not the only one 😃

Thank you guys! A reinstall won't do anything, my install is not corrupt, it is fine, everything works as it should, all plug-ins installed correctly. And as I have said I have installed and reinstalled Webroot quite a few times and this random issue is there every time. I suspect though not sure that it has to do with former need of Admin rights for Webroot to start-up.

Hi metamorph

Thanks for coming back.

Given what you say I would go ahead and Open a Support Ticket to let the Support Team take a look at this unusual behaviour.
