When I use a search engine Google or Bing in IE9 the results have a green check mark or sometimes a red X in front of them. IE is my default browser, but I use Chrome most all of the time as my main browser unless for some reason I need to use IE. The green check marks don't appear in the search engines when using Chrome, only when using IE9.
I have WOT installed on both browsers. In IE9 using either search engine Google or Bing, the search results have a green check mark, the WOT circle, the body of the result, then another WOT circle. If I click on the check mark it opens the Webroot home page. If I click on the WOT circle next to the check mark it gives a WOT rating of Webroot's home page. The WOT mark at the end of the result gives the info on the actual site.
Sorry to be so long winded, but my question is; Where do these check marks come from? Is this normal in IE searches. I've done Google and Bing searches and haven't been able to find an answer that seemed appropriate to my situation.
My computer is a Vista 32 with all updates. Webroot antivirus anywhere is my AV. I use Malwarebytes free, and Superantispyware free for scanning. I don't have any other active anti-malware running and Defender is turned off. I'd really like to know where these check marks originate from. Thanks for any info you can give my.

Also Search Annotations only work with Internet Explorer 7.0 and higher, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and higher (32-bit only) it does not show in Chrome or Opera at this time! Also Firefox 14.0.1 Google search in now HTTPS which is secure so you will have to use HTTP http://www.google.com if you want to use Firefox Google search but you will still have the protection of the Web Threat Shield when using Chrome!

I think it has been said Webroot are looking into getting the checkmarks operational within Google HTTPS searches. In the meantime, using HTTP instead will show those ticks.
I looking into this as well. I run Webroot secure anywhere AV on Windows 8 and Mac OSX 10.7, and both IE and Chrome. Here's what I've noticed...
Win 8 (IE10) Checkboxes are there for both Bing and Google searches but nothing happens when you hover over the checkbox.
Win 8 (Chrome Stable) No checkboxes for either Bing or Google and no difference between http or https.
MacOSX 10.7 (Safari 6) Checkboxes are present on http searches, but when you switch to https search, no checkboxes appear. You can hover over the checkbox to get a blurb about Webroot and the url of the site. Same for Google or Bing.

On my XP machine, all you get from a hover action is a link to webroot.com that you can click on. It isn't really a feature so much as just another way to get to webroot.com. Yes, with HTTPS on, you're trading off the security of the annotations for the security of encryption via HTTPS. We are still working on trying to figure out how to get annotations to work over HTTPS, but at this time that's expected behavior.@ wrote:

At the moment, this is again, expected behavior. Protected browsing on a Mac works through a Safari extention, and that extention isn't available in Chrome, which is not based on Safari. While Chrome in particular has posed some technical difficulties for search annotations in the past in Windows environments, we can take a look at Mac environments if there is sufficient interest. I'd suggest creating an idea in the Ideas Exchange so we can gauge interest in pursuing such a feature.@ wrote:

Optimally I'd like to see Webroot link checker behave like it does on Safari for OSX on all platforms/browsers.
