This is very fresh news and it would be good if it could be confirmed but if it is and not malicious I will move this article. It brings back memories of what happened with Sony at the beginning of last year.

The Sony PlayStation Network is down, it is the first major issue suffered on a global scale in 2016.  Sony acknowledges the problems.

 
Sony confirmed that the network was “experiencing issues” and its status page showed that the problems were affecting all of its major services, the company hasn’t provided further details on the problem.

Play Station Network also suffered technical issues over the Christmas period, some users reported difficulties in authenticating the online services.

Sony’s PlayStation network is back online after hours of outage worldwide — A Phantom Squad Twitter account claims they took the network down.

A few hours ago it was reported that Sony’s PlayStation network on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 were down worldwide. Now, the good news for gamers is that the service is back online but the bad news is that a group of attackers going with the handle of Pantham Squad who warned Sony of a cyber attack on Christmas, claims PSN service went down due to their DDoS attack on its servers.
