VirusTotal Adds Support for Scanning Malicious Firmware Images

The new feature should come in handy to users who suspect they might be infected with rootkit malware.
 

Rootkits are a common occurrence in new malware families

 
In the past years, malware targeting a computer's BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) firmware images has grown in numbers, with the most famous case coming out of the Hacking Team data breach.

That is indeed excellent news, and another plus for people and apps using VT as their threat determination mecahnism.

Im waiting for google to just come out as an AV company lol.  They use everyone elses determinations and gets all the credit lol.

Now, Now Devin we need our Toys and I Remember Prevx was on there and it detected many more things then the others!

This is true, but this is also why we arent on there anymore.  No need to tell everyone what all the files are.  ;)

This is true, but this is also why we aren't on there anymore.  No need to tell everyone what all the files are.  ;)
The way I look at it is SALES, SALES and more Sales! That's how Prevx got it's great name as many Security related users use VT so it's a show off so Webroot needs to show off IMO!

We have talked about adding the Mac version back to it, but i dont know if we actually will or not.

The new version that I have been testing for the mac product has a lot of neat features, we are able to scan certain files without opening them and without mounting them.  The mac is going up ?.  We are building out our team and hiring new Dev guys to help turn it into the next gen mac AV.

Sure the Mac version detects Windows malware as well so which ever one goes up on VT is good for me! ;)
