Attackers recently compromised the start page used by Lenovo PC customers in order to redirect users to the malicious Angler exploit kit.
F-Secure security advisor Sean Sullivan explains in a blog post how upstream detection reports from the security firm's clients indicate that the compromise occurred on March 13th:
"For some (relatively short) period of time, the portal site 'startpage.lenovo.com' redirected visitors towards the infamous Angler exploit kit."

Is it me or are we seeing an intensifying of the discovery of security threats & flaws in the offerings from mainstream manufacturers of technology? I am wondering what has prompted this? :S

I think you are right and maybe with the increase in bug bounty's more are being picked up on as well.

That may well be, Jasper, but as long as such bounties are well intentioned and not a spur/the thin end of the wewdge when it comes to the nefarious use of such ex[ploits discovered. 

When bug bounties are offered the researchers come out of the wood work as the saying goes......money talks.....and these exploits and payday for these people.
